How the Fraggle Rock can someone with Blank's business savvy and resources let the effective cost rise via just financing costs? There must be something advantageous to this we're just not seeing.

every stadium sees this. I think the only one we didn't was Cowboys Stadium because Jerry wen't overboard in the planning phase and there was nothing to really add in the building process to make it cost more.

I'm reading the term used in the article as if the costs rose not due to materials or labor but simply to HOW the construction is being financed. (ie: loan terms) If the increase were due to materials, change orders or something else of that sort wouldn't they specify that the increase was due to actual changes to the structure?

Anyway...

The Atlanta Falcons soon expect to secure an $850 million construction loan to help finance the team’s new $1.5 billion stadium.

“We have received verbal and written commitments in excess of what we need,” Elliott McCabe, managing director with Bank of America Corp.’s (NYSE: BAC) sports finance and advisory group, said during an April 28 meeting of the Georgia World Congress Center Authority (GWCCA).

The Falcons on April 16 held a meeting with prospective lenders and expect the loan to close into escrow on May 7.

“The feedback has been very positive,” McCabe said.

The $850 million senior credit facility has a five-year term or until longer-term financing is put in place, according to the Falcons. It will be used to fund construction and bridge timing of other cash receipts, including permanent seats licenses (PSLs), said the team.

Also at the April 28 meeting, the GWCCA approved two resolutions related to the final closing documents and bond financing for the new stadium.

All the closing documents related to the project are expected to be final by mid-May.

Equifax named the first of 14 founding partners of the New Atlanta Stadium.
Quote:
Equifax Inc. (NYSE: EFX) announced today it will be one of the 14 founding partners of the new Atlanta stadium set to open in 2017. The agreement continues a multi-year relationship between the global consumer and business information solutions leader and the Atlanta Falcons, and underscores the company’s investment in the Atlanta community, where Equifax is headquartered.

“Equifax has proudly supported the Falcons for the past four years, and we are excited to expand our relationship with the Falcons and The Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation,” said Equifax Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Richard F. Smith. “For Equifax, this agreement is like making the first pick in the NFL draft because it allows us to be the exclusive credit and identity information partner of our hometown Atlanta Falcons and new MLS Atlanta team, and to make significant contributions to communities located on the Westside of Atlanta.”

The Falcons and Equifax first became partners in September 2011. That announcement marked Equifax’s first NFL sports team sponsorship in its then 112-year history.

“We are very pleased to continue our partnership with Equifax for another decade,” said Arthur Blank, owner and chairman of the Atlanta Falcons. “Equifax will help us enhance the fan experience at the stadium and, along with our foundation, make a meaningful difference in the lives of the residents in communities surrounding the new stadium.”

The new 10-year partnership agreement with AMB Sports & Entertainment will give the company a premier presence in the new stadium, including a branded zone that will provide Equifax the opportunity to engage new stadium patrons on each of the three main concourses inside the new structure. The partnership includes joint promotions, branded radio segments, prominent signage at the new stadium, on-field contests, digital programming and other advertising related to the company’s credit monitoring and identity protection products.

“We’re excited to have Equifax as a founding partner of the new stadium,” said Rich McKay, president and CEO of AMB Sports & Entertainment. “Equifax is a valued partner that not only provides a valuable service to our players, associates and fans, but also cares about our communities, including the Westside neighborhoods.”

As a founding partner of the new stadium, Equifax looks forward to sponsoring the Atlanta Falcons and welcoming and sponsoring Atlanta’s new Major League Soccer team, which will host 17 to 20 matches each season in the new stadium when it begins play in 2017. MLS Atlanta has already amassed more than 19,000 season ticket seat deposits.

Gaaaaah.........!

Apologies for the slightly off topic post - I love the stadium design but I loathe this kind of marketing speak euphemism.

This sounds familiar. So far the Niners have adjusted the terms of their similarly-sized loans twice, each time getting a somewhat better interest rate.

Big first today: First pre-fab slabs are installed on the west side 2nd level! Looking back through the archives they were installed around 2:00AM on April 30th. Does that seem a little odd to anyone else especially considering they haven't added any more since then?

Also the Wing seating sections in the east side are starting to get their wooden cast.

Peach Bowl will look to host a College Football Championship game. The Georgia Dome already hosts the Peach Bowl, which is already part of the rotation to host a semi-final game.

Atlanta will submit a bid this month to bring college football’s national championship game to the new Falcons stadium in January 2018.

“We’re in the process of organizing a proposal to host the event,” Atlanta Sports Council executive director Dan Corso said.

Here are a few new shots showing updated progress.

I like what the builders have done with the American flag for Memorial Day. Nice way to pay respect. Thanks to all the hard working men and women on the job site.

Nice to see from those ariel shots the stadium fully enclosed now with at least one level all the way around.

Here is a recent pick from Curbed Atlanta showing the stadium at street level, specifically MLK Dr. as the stadium consumes the entire view of residences traveling down the street.

So the Vikings' new digs just received naming rights.

When will there be a naming rights announcement for the Falcons' new home?

Well keep in mind the Vikings stadium is opening in 2016 and this one is not opening until 2017. So it could be a year or more.
