Flight test experts of the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) completed the third flight session of МС-21-300 certification program.

Initially EASA experts worked with their Russian colleagues on the flight simulator.

Subsequently the EASA crew and the Yakovlev Design Bureau (a branch of Irkut Corporation) performed a series of flights on the МС-21-300.

It's the very thin wings that really make this aircraft shine.

In Irkutsk, the fuselage of the fifth MS-21-300 aircraft docked.
The first instance, which is assembled using serial technology.

But it's kinda stupid to build an aircraft in almost 2020 with no wingtip modification..... Winglet.. Raked Wingtip... anything... we'll see them making one in 4-5 years.. same as they i with SSJ100. They should have made this from the start

Winglet is not needed right now. The chief designer said that in the future he does not exclude this option, when competitors come closer to the current performance of the MS-21. This will be a commercial move that will increase the price of the aircraft. At the initial stage, there is no point in "Winglet" and increase its value.

Sure mate.

The company will ignore easy gains because their plane is “too good” already.

Wingspan is the key word!

Boeing 737 - 34.32 m
Airbus A320 - 34.10 m
Irkut MC-21 - 35,9 m
Narrow body wingspan limit - 36 m

Any further questions?

Same arguments as Su-57 or whatever of which only 10 were ordered.

For sure mate, that is the reason

So they changed their mind after saying they don’t need any more?

https://thediplomat.com/2018/07/russ...h-fighter-jet/

Lets guess that Irkut will magically get winglets.

The reason Winglet is made is because the wings are not long enough.
In this thread you can read the discussion on this topic and the scientific rationale.

From the same website - https://thediplomat.com/2019/06/seni...-fighter-jets/

And the actual story is that no one has ever said that they don't need it at all in the first place. And that media is stupid as a rock.

The Irkut wing is 35.9m, the width of a Narrowbody parking spot in a standard airport worldwide is 36m. There is no space for a large sharklet contraption there.

Irkuts parent UAC rolled out this bird today, the IL-114. Never heard of it but it has 2 P&W Canada turboprops rather like an ATR 72 pair.

What a nice looking turboprop too.
