Does "rare disease centre" mean essentially an Ebola type quarantine place, or am I being to cynical?

I think Ebola is probably too specialist even for this

This is the section for rare diseases on their website: http://www.bch.nhs.uk/Rare-diseases
Since, as an extremely reputable children's hospital, they will deal with these all the time, my guess is that they're expanding to accommodate for these further as each one may need specialist equipment and facilities

Unlikely, when I worked at city we had training on how to deal with Ebola cases, and that hospital does not specialise in much anymore.

Doctors use to tell me that Birmingham Children's is considered the best children's hospital in the UK, as they take on the more extreme cases that even Great Ormond Street Hospital does not want to deal with, think that's another thing we should be very proud of here in Brum.

The dental hospital is now closed, I wonder if the Children's hospital will be utilising that site too?...... still confused as to why they're building what looks like a really impressive facility when the whole children's service is moving to the QE site in 5 years time, is it not?

It's needed now, the move may be agreed within the next 5 years but it'll probably be another 10 years before its built and ready for occupation

They talked of keeping this centre with Ronald McDonald house or converting them for other uses

The place is needed they can't wait, the lives it will save and the people it will support will make up for the price tag regardless of its length of use

I actually like the old dental hospital, very bold brick building, would be great if they could keep it and change it for other uses.

The car park right ahead, the windows on the stairwell can be opened off the latch which would give someone a birds eye view of the plot without any interruptions

I'm confused by this, the new Children's Hospital is to be in planning soon. They're moving to Edgbaston.

Yep, it's an appalling waste of Tax Payers money if you ask me.

I think the plan is to keep the centre along with another similar element once the rest of the hospital move.

Surely this is the best performing year for Birmingham since probably the 60s?
