The Cotton Bowl is getting a New Year's game again in 2020.

The NHL Winter Classic will be played between Dallas Stars and a to be named opponent.

Aside from irrelevant bowl game, what else are they doing with Cotton Bowl these days?

It's the annual site (since 1932) of the single greatest regular season game in college football, and one of the top events in all of American sports.

Do the Cotton Bowl really have a greater importance than the Rose bowl game?

There's also the State Fair Classic between Grambling and Prairie View A&M as well as a third game for the State Fair, now.

No. The Red River Shootout is a regular season rivalry game between U of Texas and U of Oklahoma. It's a big game for the regular season. The Rose Bowl is a bowl game played at the end of the season thats been featured for decades, and is now generally used as an occasional national championship game and also playoff game.
