How the newer stadium stands over the old stadium footprint.

It stands much smaller than the old stadium as you can see. Celtic park seems to be more similiar in dimension. These plans are slightly outdated as each end is dead straight instead of a slight curve...but the sizes are more or less the same.

Rangers managing director Stewart Robertson has revealed that the club is exploring the possibility of expanding Ibrox Stadium to 55,000 seats.

The Rangers supremo was speaking to the Daily Record and revealed that feasibility studies are already underway to see the options the club have with regards expansion.

Stopping short of suggesting new stands or areas, Robertson says the plans are about coping with the demand and would involve new rows of seats around the stadium.

“It’s something we’re looking at just now. We won’t see anything as grand as another tier built on top of one of the existing stands,” explains Robertson.

“However, we are exploring ways we can add additional seating into the stadium. I don’t see it being another 10,000, it would maybe be low thousands.

“There are feasibility works going on at this moment and we’re probably two or three months away from knowing whether it will be possible or not.

“We’re working with a couple of consultancy firms to see what might be possible and to work out the financials on it.

Love this old photo.A few things i have noticed about this pic - no women, not one that i can make out - no children/youths,maybe down by the wall, its a bit hard to tell - no club colour's,scarves, flags, anything to show support for Rangers really - oh and 100% hat usage, not one hatless head,it must have been great to own a hat shop in those days.

Just to explain a couple of these. The terraces wouldn't really have been kid or woman friendly in those days, pissing on the terraces for example wasn't an unusual occurrence right up to the 80's at least. Children would have been down the front or in a schoolboy specific section but they would have dressed the same just in shorts maybe so hard to pick out in a picture like this. Pictures in black and white so you wouldn't see the colours but the only tell in those days would have been a scarf at most, also fans weren't separated so everyone in that picture could be a Celtic fan for all we know. Hats then, as with now, mostly worn to keep your head warm, and there weren't any hoodies back then so it was hat or a cold head.

A nice old view of Ibrox, from my postcards collection. That card was used in 1922.

Rangers Football Club is continuing to carry out feasibility studies over expanding Ibrox Stadium, it was revealed at the club’s AGM.

Discussing essential improvements for disabled access at Ibrox, managing director Stewart Robertson said the club is prepared to invest in improving the situation but also in considering expansion at the ground.

Asked about future works at the RIFC plc Annual General Meeting on Tuesday, Mr Robertson said: “We have looked at various options over the last six months or so and that (moving the corner screens) is one of them. It is probably the most expensive option because of the amount of steelwork and support work that we would need to do with the existing stands.

“However, we are looking at a couple of feasibility projects at the moment and one of those would involve lowering the pitch. The feasibility study there is to check where the water table is and see how far down it goes. We will have the results of that in a couple of months and we are also looking at potentially extending the Govan Stand by three rows as well.

“To go back to the point I made earlier, it is supply and demand. It is getting the balance between works that are feasible and make sense within the budgets we have got and expanding a new tier of the stand.”
