DARWIN - #Proposed: 84 Mitchell Street - 38st | 132.7m | Hotel & Residential

Does anyone have a News paypass to the following papers?

NT News, The Gold Coast news and Townsville Bulletine report a sexy glass 38 story hotel which received approval today.

From what i can tell this Mitchell Street tower will be the tallest building in Darwin.

This is the only free render i can find without paying the paywall first.

The PANOPS limit for the site is apparently RL159, so comes in just under that:

The lowest site level is RL23.79m, so total height would be 132.71m. I'll update thread title:

In terms of building use:

>Ground floor is hotel lobby/retail
>Levels 1-8 are a mixture of hotel facilities and parking
>Levels 9-26 are hotel rooms
>Levels 27-34 are residential units
>Level 35 is a bar/observation terrace
>Levels 36-37 are plant/mechanical floors

Thank you all for your elevations, renders, aerial photos etc...

I guess during the monsoon season the open parts of the rooftop area will be not open to the public.

My only question is how would all those trees fare during a cyclone?

Beautiful looking building that will ultimately change the city skyline. It will also open the door for future buildings within 100m - 130m.

Big news for Darwin.

i thought evolution was incredible back in the day so much higher then previous tallest but this new one with all glass and futuristic design with 30m more height then evolution will really be a landmark for darwin , the developers seem keen and this will start in 2019 i’m thinking

I just found the Development Application for this was lodged over a year ago:

The description is listed here:
https://www.planningalerts.org.au/applications/886332

It is archived but you can find it listed on this page:

It would be great if it did kick off, however with the economy here in the doldrums, the new Westin Hotel due to start construction soon adding more stock to the hotel market and property prices in shambles making it difficult to get apartment pre-commitments, I don't hold much hope in the short term.

Impressive, but I am not sure that a glass curtain wall (especially on such a tall building) makes much sense in Darwin - both from a thermal cooling perspective and more scarily, from the risk of flying glass in a big cyclone.
