what i also don't understand is:

look at this stunning cluster, don't know where to locate this one!

is it the same as this one?

or is it this one (normally it can't be but the structure pretty much is the same)

I think the hydopolis cluster, and the atlantis tower island are the same thing. just different options as to what they want to do with the site. also, it looks nothing like the hydropolis renders we have seen.

If this hand-drawn map is correct then it wasn´t the pearl (see below).
Maybe its just reserved space, although the placement of the horizontal lines seems intentional (its symmetric).

tis possible.......... i did notice that aswell......... bit confusing really. Hyropolis or the tower island thing........... hmmmmmmmmmm

prefer tower island to be honest and I prefer the hydropolis to remain at its original location.

didnt notice any bridges or tunnels connecting all those bits of reclaimed land........ they better have wide roads planned and not silly 2-lane roads like the ones at the marina.

New company to develop mega project

By Manoj Nair, Staff Reporter

Dubai: A new company, Dubai Waterfront, has been launched to develop the 81 million square metre, upscale water-themed mixed-use destination.

Aiming to be the world's largest waterfront offering, the Dubai Waterfront project will feature 10 "districts or diversified zones" and be a base for 250 master-planned communities.

Up to 750,000 people will reside in the Dubai Waterfront, the emirate's latest landmark property venture. There will also be room for about 150 hotel plots.

"It is an unprecedented advancement and a world-class addition to Dubai, one which will create long-term growth and investment for the UAE and the wider region," said General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and UAE Defence Minister, at the launch yesterday.

"We are inviting developers to benefit by being partners with Nakheel."

The development will be located 35 kilometres south west of Dubai, and bordering Abu Dhabi. Incidentally, it is also the last remaining coastal waterfront in Dubai.

Estimates of the cost of the project were not revealed, but private investors will be tapped right from the start to take the project into full realisation.

Nakheel has been working on the project's main theme for over a year, luring some of the world's leading designers.

The project, which will be split over multiple stages, aims to create a veritable "city on water", as well as the world's longest manmade canal.

On completion, the Arabian Canal will have a length of 75 kilometres, with land on either side to be used for upscale residential and other developments.

"Dubai Waterfront centres around water, something we consider perpetually valuable," Shaikh Mohammad added.

There will be a centrepiece downtown, the Madinat Al Arab. It will feature one of the world's tallest towers, the Al Burj.

Construction is to start early next year, and the first phase is expected to take place over five years.

"This is the first time investors are getting an opportunity to enter as shareholders in a land development company in Dubai right at the outset," said Sultan Bin Sulayem, chairman of Nakheel.

"They will be realising gains through sales of land, and our projection is the internal rate of return on the project will be 44 per cent of the total equity."

At a glance
Nakheel to hold majority stake

Dubai Waterfront will offer up to 49 per cent of its equity to select investors, while the majority stake is to be held by Nakheel.
Prospective investors will be offered discounted land plus other concessions such as competitive rates to the plots on The Palm Jebel Ali.
A board of investment will decide on the allocation of shares depending on the profile of investors.
The Dubai Waterfront and Arabian Canal will together create 170 square miles.
600 kilometres of roads will be created, which is more than the distance between Dubai and Bahrain (481 kilometres).
With the other water-themed developments from its stable the three Palm islands, The World and now the Dubai Waterfront Nakheel will be extending Dubai's waterfront by 1,500 kilometres.
The project has been inspired by Dubai's projections on the residential side.
By 2010, four million residential units will be required, while commercial space will need to double to 1.8 million square metres.

well here are my rough estimates

27 floors * 6 = 162 + 32 floors = 194 floors

But i didnt , or should i say , was not able to count the first 70-80 meters or so and the last 100 - 150 meters of the tower , no windows to count or grids to go by

So this building is huge , atleast 700 meters
