Don't worry; you'll see it within the next 15-20 years. Just because things are bad now, doesn't mean they always will be. Heck, the world would cease to exist if that was the case.

I know, docc, I know, obviously I was just kidding Anyway, it won't really matter what the hell they build there in another million years now will it!? We'll all be well and truly fossilized by that time! Thanks to a certain early 21st century global credit crunch they'll be just about getting that death star up and running!

Yea, the 15-20 year time frame u mentioned should be about correct. Awesome project! Been a big fan of this from day one!

Not entirely sure TCE, but I believe that water and land developments will cover an area of about 1.4 billion square feet.

Nakheel is waiting for everyone to default on Dubai Waterfront so that they can cancel the project and take everyone's money. Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings - but stay away from this one.

Holy smokes! That's a lot, indeed!

Given the scale of the entire project, I believe it won't be finished until 2025.

Foundation laid for Nakheel's waterfront substations

Nakheel has completed casting the raft foundations for two of its 132kV substations at the waterfront following six months of detailed design and engineering.

A total of 1,700 tonnes of concrete and 170 tonnes of reinforced steel were used to complete the foundations.

Nakheel's Waterfront Electrical Infrastructure team is managing the construction of the substations which will eventually be handed over to Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) for operation. They are working closely to ensure the sustainability of the overall power strategy at waterfront. Sustainability is one of the key influencing factors for investors when considering a property purchase, according to a survey by Nakheel.

Matt Joyce, Managing Director of Waterfront said, "As the world's largest coastal development, Waterfront will transform 1.4 billion square feet of empty desert and sea into an international community for an estimated population of 1.5 million people. We are delighted with the progress made on its infrastructure.

"These substations will be the first of a huge network of substations that will service the entire Waterfront community. We would like to thank Dewa for their support and cooperation."

Waterfront is the world's largest coastal development and minimising ecological impact is considered in every decision of the city's design, construction and operation.

According to Nakheel, energy and water conservation are achieved through integration of utilities in dedicated utility centres, where process streams are interlinked and waste is transformed into energy to power the city.

Simulation is used in building design to ensure tough energy efficiency targets are achieved.

Powering up: Nakheel's Waterfront lays foundations for two of the biggest electrical substations in Middle East

akheel, Dubai's master developer, accomplished yet another milestone at Waterfront - casting the raft foundations for two of its 132kV substations after six months of detailed design and engineering. A total of 1,700 tonnes of concrete and 170 tonnes of reinforced steel were used to complete the foundations.

Nakheel's Waterfront Electrical Infrastructure team is managing the construction of the substations which will eventually be handed over to DEWA for operation. The two teams are working closely to ensure the sustainability of the overall power strategy at Waterfront. Sustainability emerged as one of the key influencing factors for investors when considering a property purchase according to a recent survey undertaken by Nakheel.

Matt Joyce, Managing Director of Waterfront said:
"As the world's largest coastal development, Waterfront will transform 1.4 billion square feet of empty desert and sea into an international community for an estimated population of 1.5 million people. We are delighted with the progress made on its infrastructure.

"These substations will be the first of a huge network of substations that will service the entire Waterfront community. We would like to thank DEWA for their ongoing support and cooperation."

Waterfront is the world’s largest coastal development based on the shores of Dubai, and is on track to becoming the exemplar sustainable city founded on resource efficiency, social equity, and economic prosperity. Minimizing ecological impact is considered in every decision of the city's design, construction and operation. Energy and water conservation are achieved through integration of utilities in dedicated utility centres, where process streams are interlinked and waste is transformed into energy to power the city. Simulation is used in building design to ensure tough energy efficiency targets are achieved.

Thanks for that information. Weren't the two projects merged together a couple of years ago?

Have you heard anything about the progress of construction of the villas on the PJA?

Appreciate your comments.
