ROTTERDAM | The CoolTower | 150m | 48 fl | U/C

Casanova+Hernandez builds a 100-meter high tower

The Rotterdam-based agency Casanova + Hernandez Architects has won a closed competition to design a 100 meters high tower in the center of Rotterdam. In the design of the Cool Tower is a diverse residential program combined with a multifunctional plinth.

Cool Tower is named after the location, the Cool Quarter in the heart of Rotterdam. The tower is trying to catch up with the pre-and post-modernist icons in the city, like the Sonneveld House and the buildings of Maaskant and Van den Broek and Bakema. The plinth of the tower will combine several functions: including office space, an automatic parking garage, a sports center and a public roof garden.

The basic concept of the tower is a compact core, surrounded by a continuous flexible living space. Thanks to all-round windows and balconies the look of the tower is facing outwards. There is a range of different housing types located in the tower, tailored to different audiences. The basic types are lofts, corner apartments, panoramic apartments and a commuter combination. Two special types of homes with spacious terraces are situated in the 'crown' of the tower: the penthouse and duplex.

Looks so light in industrial neighborhood in the centre pic. I love it!

It's not an industrial neighbourhood. The cranes and ships belong to the Harbour Museum

This tower will also fill a gap in the skyline.

Small update:

There are strong indications that this tower will be groundbreaking in the first part of 2012!

You mean the start of the construction. It would mean that we could see demolition soon.
