This is going to play out very badly, and I suspect the offender is gonna be the next one under the bus,

Or if he has the foresight he's already planning his departure via the Darren Hughes exit in the next day or two...

Pay isn't set by the public, just the fact whether they are "in-office" or not is... though that is debatable for list MP's not elected via electorate seats.

The problem is that governments and councils do have a level of immunity from accountability at times... there has been numerous instances of this over the years.

Classic example of a lack of accountability in the last two days.

This week the counter will click over 20,000 homes due to be finished under Kiwi build, and 200,000,000 trees planted

Now they have given up counting the houses and will build as many as they can as fast as they can but no numbers will be given.

What about the trees are we ever going to get updates or will this to turn into a no numbers, we'll plant as many as we can as fast as we can but we're not telling you how many.

MPI and Forestry NZ up date this page on a fairly regular basis,

its currently estimated to be around 150 million trees

https://www.mpi.govt.nz/funding-and-...anting-tracker

Although " a billion trees" was always a total new plantings figures,

At least 500 million will likely be planted simply as BAU by commercial foresters replanting harvested trees,
- but given the Carbon zero bill and increase in Carbon price, its likely they will do most of the heavy lifting for the additional 500 million too!!

- but it will take a few years for Commercial foresters to ramp up the commercial planting of newly acquired land...

The figure of 148 million would appear to be the Forestry industry planting, not part of an additional 1 billion.
There is a note that Governments has funded 24 million odd, is this Shane and the cussies effort?

The 1 billion was the moment they got into power reduced by 500million by saying the 1 billion included what the Forestry industry plants each year.

Another broken promise.

"Billion trees" wasn't anyone's election promise. not even NZ First, it didn't arrive until the glorious Coalition agreement... it was then quietly watered down within 2 months of being agreed,

Dunno that it was a broken promise per se, but definitely misleading which for all intended purposes is just as bad as breaking a promise.... but it is how politics works I suppose.

As a rule, I tend not to assume any electioneering spin as fact until I see and understand how the figures were derived... this is again something that happens far too often where a statement is made, which clearly implies a given government commitment on their own part, but then decides that "oh it includes what the forestry industry were going to plant anyway"...

This is just retarded by the government... They may as well say that Kiwibuild is on track to build 100,000 houses over the next 10 years because we were including all houses built in NZ, not just the ones the government is bankrolling.... Yep, stupid huh?

GDP is not in decline. GDP growth is. Just like it is in most other developed economies. Is Cindy to blame for them as well.

NZ has not had GDP growth below the OECD average in any quarter under the current government

I'm no fan of Adern's but get your facts right FFS
