To me, it's also a "clin d'oeil" with the french word éclat which means glow.

Why there's so much highway infrastructures, like viaducts in La Defence?
The urbanism of the modernism was an outrage.

That's horrible, I hope theres gonna be all demolished, and the public space would be humanized.

Paris is doing a great job!

Unfortunately this comes from the post-war urbanistic ideology to separate levels in the town (car circulation, deliveries, walking paths, underground transportation, air and fluid circulation). They built a gigantic slab in La Defense and developed a 3D circulation scheme which is a complex labyrinth today.

To come back to a classical 2D scheme urbanism would need to cut a lot of circulation paths in the 3D scheme. Which is quite impossible as we would have to tear down the whole circulation scheme in La Defense for years to do it...

Its always fascinating to me to see these irregular niches between roads/plazas/other towers etc. being developed into new skyscrapers. Just when it looks like there are no more lots for new skyscrapers, a developer finds another one in some awkward niche.

Thats one of the coolest parts about the La Defense skyline. Not only does it look great, but it has a structured feel that is oddly organic at the same time. Always a skyscraper popping up in an unexpected place yet standing in harmony with the ones that already exist.

Also whats going on with those wedge shaped buildings with the cranes and missing windows across the street? Are they rennovating them or demolishing them?

A simple renovation, with the addition of 2 small atriums in the facade.
