What I want to know is why this kind of roadside landscaping can't be replicated all over Xamar, why is it so hard?

Seriously, this is beautiful and makes all the road work all over the city look unfinished in comparison.

Not really. Compared to repaving and road reconstruction costs, a little landscape work and paint for lane marking is a drop in the bucket.

I disagree. I think its mostly due to low standards and incompetence. Landscaping shouldn't be expensive in South Somalia as its the most fertile and agriculturally rich region in the country and most plants & trees can be grown locally. And there is plenty of unskilled labour, so planting trees and plants shouldn't cost a lot of money either.

The concept of aesthetics is severely lacking for many developers or even among many in the general population. It's just something I noticed over the years. Other than the reconstruction projects of buildings damaged in the war, there really doesn't seem to be much of a concern when it comes to design.

Good landscaping is a small relatively effortless job, but it really does wonders when it comes to overall appearance. It annoys me that this is neglected.

To even be talking about aesthetics is sign of the times! Not long ago we were happy just to see a building being rebuilt or a new building. We have come a long way indeed!

How many public green parks are there in Mogadishu? I couldn't find any on the Internet. I've also read a report online which said many of the former government owned public parks were sold to private individuals who built new business in there. see link bellow for this report http://www.raxanreeb.com/2015/02/som...-in-mogadishu/

I am a doubtful about the website raxanreeb, its reputation for honesty is low.

The government needs to create special commission to report whether land owned by the pubic for recreation/parks has been illegally taken over by business and then prosecute them through the courts.

I agree but are there zoning/land usage maps of the city to use?

I can't believe it has already been 4 years. I could swear it was just yesterday when we were talking about these hospitals.
