Tokyo Tower

Needless to say I took heaps of pics whilst up in the observation platforms, of which there are two. The basic charge gets you up to the first platform, the Grand Viewing Platform at 150m. The Special Observation Platform is at 250m and costs another 600Y or thereabouts. You can't go straight up to the top platform, you need to wait til your number is called.
Half the pics I took on 'auto mode' which weren't nearly as sharp as the ones I took in night mode I think it's called on my camera?? Anyway, I think you can tell the difference........

Day 11 - Shiodome: Hamarikyu Park

Getting away from the hustle and bustle of the city for the day, well to a certain extent anyway

I remember seeing a doco that featured this building, they interviewed a tenant, who was a lawyer and each cube is an entire unit not much more than two or three square meters. Utterly tiny and everything folds out, beds, tables etc

Goosh, I'd never consider living in such tiny box. Omg, how they manage to live there. Although the building is more interesting architecture wise.

The shiodome photos were amazing. Thanks for sharing mate.

It's the Nakagin Capsule Tower. Here's an interesting youtube clip about the tower.....

Day 12 - Shinkansen to Osaka

Did I say I stayed at the Dormy for 16 nights? Well I was mistaken, it was only 11 nights.
I bought a week long JR Rail Pass prior to leaving for Japan, you have to validate the pass in Japan and let them know the day you'll start using it.
I booked a reserve seat on the Shinkansen to Osaka, I thought for some reason that there'd be huge queues for the unreserved seats. The day I was due to leave it was pouring with rain and I got absolutely drenched walking to Nakameguro Station to catch the local train to Tokyo Station, I remember panicking about missing my train as I was running a bit late. Well I did miss my train but to my surprise there were heaps of unreserved seats available on the next train out. Phew! In fact on every Shinkansen journey there were plenty of empty seats on the unreserved cars, but be careful if you are traveling on or near a national holiday as they can be extremely busy at those times and I'd recommend reserving your seat in that case.......

Onto the pics.........

Shinkansen are like commercial jets on the inside. There are food/drink carts which ladies wheel through the cars. They bow as they enter the car and again as they leave, as do all the Shinkansen employees
