Seph in Japan [2012]

Here are my pictures from Japan taken in period of April and May of 2012. I spent three weeks in Osaka, Kyoto, Nara, Hiroshima and Tokyo and tried to catch lovely sights of these places.

Camera is the same like before, Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ8, it is a bit old camera now but I hope you'll like photographs I took with it.

The route to Japan was very tough, I traveled almost 36 hours to Osaka, my first destination. When I reached my hotel it was around 3PM but I went out to see my friend and to start taking photos, of course.

DAY 1 OSAKA - Shinsekai, Dotonbori

image hosted on flickr

Tsutenkaku tower from Tennoji park.

image hosted on flickr

Detailed and original sewer lid like in every Japanese city.

image hosted on flickr

Entrance to Shinsekai, old part of Osaka I knew before very well thanks to yakuza movies.

image hosted on flickr

Shinsekai is filled with small restaurants and shops, colorful billboards are everywhere.

image hosted on flickr

Octopus based food is the most popular in Osaka.

Not only known for tako but for fugu too.

image hosted on flickr

Classic view to Tsutenkaku tower.

image hosted on flickr

First time I thought about too many billboards, Tsutenkaku is almost not visible.

image hosted on flickr

Smiling god Biriken, protector of Shinsekai, his 'residence' is at the Tsutenkaku.

image hosted on flickr

Another colorful takoyaki stall.

Inefekt, be sure there are lots of them.

image hosted on flickr

Octopus is really a trademark of Osaka.

image hosted on flickr

View from Tsutenkaku tower.

image hosted on flickr

Tsutenkaku is only 91 m high (observatory deck) but building around are much smaller.

image hosted on flickr

Last one from the tower.

It is a pity to eat these lovely wrapped mochi sweets.

Tsutenkaku entertainers are always ready for fun.

Neverending row of toy vending machines.

Neon lights all night long.

image hosted on flickr

From Dotonbori to Shinsekai. We traced that route every night during our stay in Osaka.

image hosted on flickr

There are plenty of dragons, almost like in Chinatown.

image hosted on flickr

Third dragon in a line.

image hosted on flickr

I wasn't brave enough to try 'Hormones, fat food and spit' menu.

DAY 2 OSAKA Osaka-jo and around Bunraku theater

image hosted on flickr

Every day I started from Shin-Imamiya station.

image hosted on flickr

Inside Osaka Loop Line train, similar to Yamanote Line in Tokyo.

image hosted on flickr

Just after entrance to the park around Osaka-jo castle.

image hosted on flickr

Ohanami passed before week but people still like to take some photos of blossomed trees.

image hosted on flickr

Many visitors decided for Osaka-jo even it was an ordinary day in a week.

Thank you quashlo. Weather was a little bit more rainy than I thought, even my Japanese friends said that was too cold and rainy for spring in Kansai. First five days in Osaka were quite fine but then we had all four rainy days in Kyoto. Next two days in Hiroshima were without rain and then in Tokyo we also had a period of five rainy days in a line.

Small shinto shrine in the park around Osaka-jo.

image hosted on flickr

I think that shrine is dedicated to Jizo for children health protection.

image hosted on flickr

Red bibs around stone necks.

image hosted on flickr

Kanji carved in a stone with traces of moss.

image hosted on flickr

Smiling stone statue that looks like a Biriken, protector of Tsutenkaku tower.

I believe it's referring to offal as "Hormones" and rinds as "fat food." Spit is basically how it's cooked. Regardless, it's still a shitty sign using "and" twice.

Actually, this fence is made from concrete.

image hosted on flickr

Best view that include pond and Osaka-jo. South-west corner of the park.

image hosted on flickr

Pond alone is a very nice place to stroll.

image hosted on flickr

Leaving the castle.

Last picture of the 2nd day. Leaving Ikukunitama.

Later afternoon we spent more than 4 hours at bunraku performance. Photographing in theater wasn't allowed but one of my travel companion took a few pictures. Not a quality ones, bit blurry.
