Haean Catholic Lecture Hall

From the Incheon Chinatown homepage:

In 1995 the Catholic community bought this building from Chinese immigrants. It was built in 1939 and refurbished for use as a place of education.

It is still maintained in good condition along with other existing Chinese houses. The interior has been kept as it was and the inner parts have retained their delicate craftsmanship.

Incheon Post Office

This building, with large pillar-like poles flanking the entrance, was constructed in 1924 in the simplified form of the then popular eclectic style.

It does not have the characteristic round dome-like roof, however.

It was built with red bricks and has a concrete basement.

Granite was used only along the lower part while the upper part was done with cement mortar in a stone-bolck pattern.

At that time, most public office buildings were built in such a way, though planes and other details varied.

Part of the roof was rebuilt after it was damaged during the Korean War.

The Incheon branch of the Osaka-based 58 Bank was founded in 1892. The current building was rebuilt in 1939. A beautiful example of French Renaissance architecture. Got to love the balcony and Mansard roof.

From the Incheon Junggu website:

No, it's not the house of Juliet, it's the Incheon Branch Office of former Japan 58 Bank.

The headquarter of 58 bank is located in Osaka, and this branch opened in July of 1892.

After then, the bank worked on merging with other bank then became Yasuda Bank.

The building was rebuilt in 1939 and was used as Joheung bank's branch office then as Red Cross Branch office, after the Liberation. Right now, Restaurant Business Association occupies this building.

This building is made in French renaissance style, and the exterior was finished with stone panel. The balcony of second floor is exotic and beautiful, so you for some moment forget you're Incheon.(Municipal Cultural Assent 19th)

Former Incheon Branch of Dai-Ichi Bank Korea

Completed in 1897, and designed by Japanese architect Nienomi Takamasa. Built in late-Renaissance style.

From Wikipedia:

In 1884 Dai-Ichi Bank made a deal with the Joseon Dynasty to make Dai-Ichi Bank Korea Branch the monopoly agent of tariff management for Choson. In subsequent years Dai-Ichi began issuing banknotes called “Dai-Ichi Bank Token” in Korea, and became the central bank of Korea virtually. Following the Japan-Korea Protectorate Treaty of 1904, however, Dai-Ichi was deprived of its central banking in Korea by Japanese government, because the government official made an issue of Dai-ichi, mere commercial bank, being the central bank.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dai-Ichi_Kangyo_Bank

Became the Bank of Korea in 1909, and the Bank of Choson following Japan's annexation of Korea in 1911. After independence, it became the Incheon branch of the Bank of Korea. Late it became the Incheon Office of the Public Procurement Service, then the Dong-incheon Registry Office. It is now slated to become a museum.

Unhyeongung Yanggwan

This impressive Neo-Baroque building was built as a home for Heungseon Daewongun's grandson, Yi Jun-yong. When he died, it was taken over by Prince Yi Wu, who would be killed during the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. It's now an office for Duksung Women's University's continuing education program.

Taiwan

Taipei Guest House (traditional Chinese: 臺北賓館) is the historical building located at Ketagalan Boulevard No.1, Zhongzheng District and also lies in the BoAi Special District. It’s owned by the government of Taiwan and used for receiving state guests or celebration activities.

Taipei Guest House, designed by Japanese architects Dougo Hukuda and Ichiro Nomura, was built from 1899 to 1901 and rebuilt by Matsunosuke Moriyama. Taipei Guest House is the representative work of Taiwanese buildings under Japanese rule, also called the most graceful baroque residence house. The main architecture of the building is concave shaped, having a roof in Mansard style and high Roman pillars, mainly in a style of France Second Empire palace buildings. Inside the building there is a resplendent suspension light decorated with crystal, baroque gold leaves and flowers and gold foil; outside the building there’s a modern Japanese curtilage garden. In 1988, Taipei Guest House was designated by the government of Taiwan and administrated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Taiwan.

Taipei Guest House originally was the House of Governor-General of Taiwan during the Japanese rule, at a distance of around 100 meters from the Office of Governor-General of Taiwan (is now the Presidential Building). Imperial members and heads of politics often visited here. Emperor Showa (Crown Prince Hirohito) also stayed here when visiting Taiwan. After Japan was defeated, Chinese Minister of Foreign Affairs Yeh Kung Chao and Japanese Minister of Foreign Affairs Isao Kawada signed the Treaty of Taipei here in 1953.
