Urban Renewal

Hey guys,

I was wondering if anyone here knows about some Urban Renewal projects where they redeveloped office zones into mixed use zones, or residential zones.

Most urban renewal projects focuss on the regeneration of old harbour districts into residential/mixed use areas, such as in Hafencity in Hamburg or the Baltimore Harbor area. Nowadays a lot of developed countries are dealing with loads of vacant office space, of office built in the wrong location and offering unattractive floorplans.

Are there examples of of these kinds of office areas within cities, that they have successfully regenerated into mixed use areas, transforming buildings and filling up vacant spaces with other uses?

Many thanks

Here in Jackson, Mississippi a few years back they redeveloped the King Edward Hotel http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King_Ed...n,_Mississippi) , which was vacant and in a very sad state , into mixed-used residential and retail. A simple example of urban renewal and gentrification but I believe this applies.
