For me, Metro Manil is the worst place in terms of traffic I have ever been, it's like hell. But many people say, it has improved so much based on the past ten years.

As somebody said,Bejing faces terrible traffic congestion in all time ,though the government has built as many avenues as they could ,and there are some reasons, first : more and more people influx into Beijing in recent years,it worsen the traffic jam much more than before due to the scant mass transit
secondary:more and more people in Beijing buy there private sedan to be a tool for work for business duo to the price of sedan declining quickly in dormestic automobile market .it makes the roads are more congester than before. third:unreasonable traffic signal and bad driving habits is one of the most significant reasons to the traffic congestation in Beijing.

Solution:government is planing to build a massive subway nertwork in order to avoid the terrible traffic congestation ,it can reduce the ground pressure greatly by promoting more and more people to board subway to go out

i think government limited number of private cars is not the final solution to avoid traffic jams,to build more efficient traffic single and mass transit system the a best way to perfect Beijing's traffic issue.

From what I've read on wikipedia, Hwy 401 in Toronto is officially the busiest freeway in the world. Anyone who's driven it knows that to be true.

Interesting thread...Well nowadays most big cities all over the world face many traffic jams. In my opinion you have to monitor the rate of cars/minute on the avenues of a city for a long time in order to measure this problem. For example here in Athens (Greece) we have this useful site:
http://www.transport.ntua.gr/map/en/index.php

maybe Cairo?
i was kind of shocked
there are hardly traffic lights (if, then people dont really pay attention to them)
and lanes are seldomly marked as well.
hooting all the time and lots of fumes...
thats Cairo traffic id say

Sorry no pics because it has been posted earlier.

I have been to New York, Seoul, London, Amstedam, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore
and Mumbai.

I would say Mumbai is way worst among those in the list. I was stuck in an eternal jam so I had to pee by the roadside. It was no problem though because my cab wasnt moving anywhere.

Most probably, developing countries would suffer worse traffic jams compared to developed ones (although developed ones would carry more traffic per hour) because the roads, traffic control, network etc tec sucks.

That is true, but when you have 26 lanes on a highway it makes congestion less severe than those pics I saw of Karachi, Lagos, Manila, etc.

We also don't encounter 6 to 8 roads converging at one point with no traffic light. We don't have thousands of people jockeying with cars for position or animals roaming around like in some of those pics.

I've seen the 26 lane 401 Highway come to a stand still, but it usually picks up again quickly.
