Hotelier Accor may check into Mihan

NAGPUR: Though investors may be going slow, Maharashtra Airport Development Company building city’s ambitious Mihan seems to be going full speed
ahead with developing infrastructure there.
MADC is in the process of finalising a deal with Europe’s biggest hotel chain— Accor— for setting up three and four star hotels within the SEZ.

Besides 50 other companies in the process of investing in Mihan, Accor is negotiating a land deal with Mihan to set up the hotels.

Mihan flying high despite downturn

Nagpur: “Besides having 50 companies already in the process of investing in Multimodal International Hub Airport at Nagpur (Mihan), we are negotiating a land deal with Accor for hotels. We have already awarded a contract for setting up 2500-bed hospital to Johns Hopkins, a globally-acclaimed health services provider from US,” revealed Abdul Abid Ruhi, project manager, MADC.
The reason, as Ruhi puts it, the cost of the land in SEZs in Nagpur, considered the tenth economically fastest growing urban centre of India, is half that in metro cities like Mumbai. “In the financial meltdown, tier-two cities like Nagpur will thus be benefited as compared to the metro cities like Mumbai,” he added.
Sources said Mantri Realty, building a private SEZ close to Mihan, is also separately negotiating deals with Biocon, another reputed name in biotech and pharma, and Satyam, a well-known software institution. Shrikant Laddha and Rupesh Mowade, President and project manager for Mantri Realty’s private SEZ, said though they were going slow in construction due to economic slowdown, top banners like Biocon and Satyam were negotiating with the company for setting up their units. Besides, there have been 20 fresh inquiries for buying land. Mantri’s Rs 600 crore SEZ is coming up with its first phase of Rs 100 crore with five iconic buildings over 44 acres.
According to Ruhi, as of now there were no indications of putting on hold the construction plans by major investors. “Satyam will start construction by February next year while SICAL Logistics will begin work on its project from January 2009. Developments by L&T are also expected soon,” reveals Ruhi and his Chief Engineer colleague S V Chahande.
He said that the quota of land reserved for IT companies in Mihan was almost over. “But recently four inquiries for buying land in non-IT sector were made by companies in Kolkata and Mumbai,” Ruhi, who looked elated after answering frequent calls from Mumbai and Kolkata, said.
MADC superintending engineer S K Chatterjee said companies like DLF, Shapoorji Pallonji Info City, TAL Manufacturing Solutions Ltd (which makes parts for Boeing’s Dreamliner) and Caliber Point have maintained their pace of developments.

Maha gov lays foundation stone of Duke MRO in Nagpur

Maharashtra Governor S C Jamir today laid the foundation stone of the Rs 725-crore Duke Aviation's maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility near here. The facility, to be spread over 36.5 acres, will come up in the SEZ at Mihan near here.

Duke Aviation, a company promoted by Dubai-based investment fund Duke Equity, has said construction work on the MRO would begin next month.

Duke is the fourth company setting up an MRO in the orange city, the others being Boeing, Max Aerospace and Bravia.

Chavan assures land for Rs 50,000 cr silicon complex in Mihan

NAGPUR: Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan has assured to look into the proposal for suitable land for about Rs 50,000 crore for setting up an Integrated Silicon Complex in Multi Modal International Passenger and Cargo Hub (Mihan) here.

Chavan, who was here on Sunday on a day long visit for laying the foundation stone for Reliance Power and NTPC thermal power plant and transfer of airport from AAI to MADC headed by himself, has assured that he would seriously pursue the issue for allotment of land which has been raised by Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Vilas Muttemwar. A Delhi-based Vavasi group has shown interest in setting up an 'Integrated Silicon Complex' in Mihan either through Swiss Challenge route or through Direct Participation, sources close to Muttemwar said quoting official documents.

Group Managing Director Farid Arifuddin had on January 10 written to Chavan stating that their proposal was under the Special Incentive Package Scheme (SIPS) with an assurance of providing direct employment to 16,000 and indirect about 50,000.

The letter said the Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC), R C Sinha was willing to part with 400 acres of land that would be made available against demand of 4000 hectares, at Rs 52 lakhs per acre.

Has the SlowDown... Slowed down ALL here

I have seen this forum putting interesting facts about the project at various points of time.. Looks like the Overall Economic Slowdown has Slowed Down all the participants here.. and nothing interesting coming up worth a Mention...

I wish the Airport Transfer thing should have given some real good push to the Project.. Any updates with anyone..

Roads in MIHAN

The main road which enters mihan is 6-lane cement road. Most others are 4-lane normal tar roads. All the street light installation work is completed.
