Interesting presentation on MIHAN

Nagpur evolves with every passing day and will soon be synonymous with high quality planning and infrastructure. The city of oranges and tigers now boast’s - MIHAN, the Multi-modal International Cargo Hub and Airport and 2086 hectares of SEZ.

With the infrastructure in place, the SEZ provides companies the opportunity to plug in and pay at a fraction of the cost as compared to most metros. Serving as the perfect platform for corporates and government, this city is all set to take its place as the next IT- ITES hub of Asia.

Government officials and CEO's got candid with CNBC-TV18's Suresh Venkat to discuss the opportunities that lie ahead for the zero mile city of India.

Air France-KLM Launches Component MRO In India-have they started construction in MIHAN???
India will gain its first component repair shop in a joint venture between Air France Industries KLM Engineering & Maintenance (AFI KLM E&M) and Mumbai-based Max Aerospace and Aviation Ltd.’s Max MRO Services.

Construction is to start early this year and finish in the first quarter of 2013, says AFI KLM E&M President Franck Terner. Terms were not disclosed, but the company, as yet unnamed, is expected to start operations with a 10,000-sq.-meter (108,000-sq.-ft.) facility.

Plants are under construction in Bengaluru and Nagpur, which offer tax-free zones established to encourage industry. Nagpur is home to the maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) center and taxiway Boeing is establishing for Air India.

Can anyone confirm this??? Here is the link of of the news story...

what he will do now in Mihan, he did all to fill up his own pockets. Now nothing left to grab!!. Even his master Praful Patel sold off all the airports and now got himself transferred to different ministry.

Nagpur's dream to become first solar city has been shattered..

When Vilas Muttemwar was non conventional energy minister he proposed to set up Nagpur as first solar city in India. 9 carore rs have also been sanctioned for this. But Nagpur municipal corportion has not replied to this proposal event after reminding for 2 yrs. It seems Vidarbhites themselves are responsible non development of Vidarbha..

GE to set up Rs 1Kcr workshop in Mihan?

Can someone verify it??? Is it possible ????

NAGPUR: Heavy industries minister Praful Patel, who had held the civil aviation portfolio until a few weeks ago, told the media on Wednesday that GE and Air India would set up a jet engine workshop in Mihan.

Air India officials, however, said that deliberations were on but nothing concrete had taken shape. Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) officers too said that the project was in preliminary stages. "We had not made any announcement regarding this project because it was too early," he said.

The minister claimed that the investment in the project would be around .`1,000 crore adding that it would create a lot of jobs. "Several ancillary industries will come up, which will provide employment to more Vidarbha youngsters," he added.

Patel further said that the foundation stone of Boeing's MRO depot would be laid in 10-15 days. He claimed that Deccan Cargo was ready to start operations in Nagpur but it did not have connectivity with Boeing MRO. "Unless that is done fast, the project will suffer.

I have talked to chief minister Prithviraj Chavan in this regard," he said.

I hope all these investments like GE, Boing, Lupin materialise. Nagpur and MIHAN in particular has the potential and required infrastructure for this. Its the political class which disappoints..These companies had started operation way back if Vidarbha has leader like Narendra Modi..

Hurdles in Mihan project will be removed: CM

Hurdles in Mihan project will be removed: CM

NAGPUR: Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan on Saturday said the Mihan-SEZ execution delay was a matter of concern. "We have identified five major hurdles in the way and are tackling them seriously. If needed the government will form separate subgroups to resolve these issues," he said. This was not the first time that the CM has mentioned the M-word after taking over in November last year.

Talking informally to reporters soon after his arrival from Mumbai on a short visit here, Chavan also said that the demand for onion exports will be met in the next couple of days. "I have talked to five ministers in New Delhi and briefed them on the matter," he said.

Slamming the BJP-ruled states for obstructing the process of consensus on the UPA government's proposal on goods and services tax, he said the opposition owed an explanation to the people.

Elaborating on the Mihan-SEZ project, Chavan said he started cleaning up the mess by initiating a leadership change in MADC (nodal agency), thus making it clear that vice-chairman and managing director RC Sinha was asked to step down from the post. "The five major hurdles that have been identified are Shivangaon village rehabilitation, power transmission line for SEZ, jhudpi-jungle in the airport area, land swap with the defence ministry and the dispute over land ownership between defence department and the Airport Authority of India," he said.

"The idea is to develop Mihan-SEZ in tandem and as per the original concept conceived in 2003. We want a credible and visible progress like launching the second runway plan. Investments will be sought through roadshows," said Chavan. He also denied speculation that Boeing was not interested in setting an MRO here. "They have made a commitment as part of the deal with aviation ministry. I am sure it will be honoured," the CM said.

On the delay in appointing vice-chancellor for the newly created Gondwana University at Gadchiroli, he said he was looking for a man of high stature who would give a firm direction to it. "I am talking to experts and hope to find a suitable person soon," said Chavan.

About raising cap on cotton exports from 55 to 75 lakh bales, Chavan said it could be done after the present quota is exhausted by February 25. " But cotton growers should have no complaints. They are getting all-time high price of over Rs 6500 a quintal this year. I only hope they spend their earnings judiciously," remarked Chavan.

Later speaking at the Vidarbha Industries Association (VIA), Chavan said that regional imbalance in economic growth is indeed a matter of concern for the state government. "The rate of growth is just about average in the state if the Mumbai and Pune regions are excluded, whereas some district like Gadchiroli and Gondia also face a problem of a very low human development index (HDI)," he said.

The government will also focus on the Melghat region and make attempts to bring down the infant mortality rate to the state's average.

Chavan said there is a plan to do away with octroi in various municipal corporation in phases. "It would start with 3-4 cities at a time. Octroi will be replaced by an incentivized levy called local body tax," he said.

Nagpur is a beautiful city but it has to repair its roads now. When I arrived in nagpur a few years back, I was told that Nagpur has just evolved from a 'gaon' to a city with good infrastructure. But I felt the quality went down in the following years.

Anyway, if somebody is from Nagpur, how were the celebrations in DP post-match? God, I miss Nagpur!

Investors take baby steps in Mihan SEZ

Atleast some movement is seen on SEZ front in MIHAN.
The Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) is expecting a couple of investors to at last begin work on setting up their units in Mihan-SEZ. These are L&T Infocity that has been allotted 50 acres for building an IT park and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) that has 50 acres for setting up a software unit.
Here is the link.
