Is the HondaJet a business jet that can be customized interior-wise? I never heard of that before btw.

The HondaJet is a small business jet, of course the interior can be customized if the customer wants it. But there's not that interior that can be changed, it's that small. It's basically a cabin with 4 seats and a small toilet in the back.

So it's similar then to a private jet like the Bombardier Global Series or Cessna Citation... interesting.

it's indeed a private jet... a very small one
Think more like a very small Cessna Citation (like the Mustang/CitationJet) or the Embraer Phenom 100 than a Global

Not a passenger jet, but a cargo/freight one

Japan pitches C-2 for New Zealand transport fleet

Quote:
MELBOURNE, Australia — Kawasaki Heavy Industries will offer its C-2 transport aircraft to New Zealand for the country’s Future Air Mobility Capability, or FAMC, program, a company representative confirmed Tuesday.

New Zealand has a requirement to replace its aging Lockheed Martin C-130H Hercules and Boeing 757-200C aircraft with a new capability. The FAMC program seeks to deliver a strategic and tactical airlift capability, which may involve a mix of two different aircraft types, or a single type able to meet essential requirements in both roles.

Speaking at the 2019 Avalon Airshow, the official said that Kawasaki Heavy Industries, or KHI, had been in discussion with the Royal New Zealand Air Force for several years regarding its requirements.

Mitsubishi Aircraft has started certification flight tests for its MRJ90 regional jet programme early this month, using FTA-4.

^ its not really a freight transport aircraft but mainly used for search and rescue or firefighting.

that said, they are proposing a civilian transport version since its the only aircraft capable of landing in the Ogasawara Islands (unless they decide to build an airport, which the current governor is trying to do)

India probably might end up purchasing it as Japan is pushing it. But who knows when it will go through.. the Indian government are very difficult negotiators. They're still negotiating with France over a fighter jet deal from years ago.

what a horrible name

Mitsubishi to turn MRJ into cheaper, smaller 'Space Jet'
Project centers on redesigned 70-seat model, with US production on the table

Quote:
TOKYO -- Mitsubishi Heavy Industries is revamping its long-delayed Mitsubishi Regional Jet project to concentrate on a smaller model for the U.S. market -- and dropping its own name from the aircraft to reflect a more global vision for a previously Japan-centric business.

Development subsidiary Mitsubishi Aircraft plans to offer an outline of the reworked project, the Space Jet, in June. This will entail a drastic redesign to create the smaller 70-seat-class model, with work to get underway in earnest as early as this year.

Mitsubishi Aircraft also plans to switch to American suppliers for certain parts to cut costs, aiming to make price a selling point along with fuel efficiency, and is considering production in the U.S. as well. Along with the renaming, this marks a significant change in direction for what had been envisioned as Japan's first homegrown commercial jet.

In the U.S., agreements between pilots and carriers include "scope clauses" that cap the number of seats on planes serving regional routes at 76. Mitsubishi Heavy started work on the mainstay 90-seat-class model in 2008 amid widespread expectation that these limits would be relaxed.

But with the industry suffering from a pilot shortage, that looks unlikely to happen anytime soon. With prospects looking grim for American sales of the larger plane, the company opted to focus on the smaller version to ensure access to the world's largest market.

They are looking into buying the CRJ program from Bombardier, the last commercial aircraft family from the Canadian manufacturer. It won't include Bombardiers business aircraft division, so they won't be leaving the aviation sector all together.

This is an interesting development considering the overlap between the CRJ and the MRJ. It's not yet clear what will happen with both programs when this deal goes through.

The only benefit I can see to buying CRJ program is to buy the supply chain for support so Mitsubishi doesn't have to set it up. As we all know, support makes or breaks any aviation program. The CRJ plane itself might not be of much use to Mitsubishi.

It appears the MRJ Programme might have another name by the time the industry rolls into Paris later this month. The Spicejet or something snazzy like that.

In other news. Honda have passed 100 deliveries for the Hondajet, where serial production is nearing 1 a week nowadays.
