I think all the pyramids they've built millennia ago already stand for that very well. Nonetheless, it's still a wonderful project.

Some posters are saying this project is tacky. I’m intrigued by that criticism.
Ornate? Yes. Tacky? No.
It’s elegant, stylish and relevant to the culture and history of the city.

First a major Chinese developer pulled out from the new capital development and now possibly Emaar. Though impressive, I just do not see this particular project rising up anytime soon.

Egypt housed the tallest buildings on earth for over 4000 years. It is a great vision to see Egypt does that once again. BUT, only after Egypt has become rich and comfortable country of democratic middle class. As poor and undemocratic as Egypt is today, this would be an unthinkable waste of money to glorify some dictator who will be ruling from Cairo. We don't want to go Freudian, with the ".... envy" thing, but I much rather see the Egyptian people prosper and live democratically than a 1000 meter high "...." sticking up in the sky of Cairo

So the Pyramids were built in an egalitarian democracy? Your post contradicts itself from start to finish. For monuments of this magnitude I don't think it matters much who is building them or why. You don't ask about human rights in the pharaonic age today, do you think if this tower were to still stand in a few millennia anyone would ask about human rights in our age? They'd just marvel at the amazing structure.

If this is true, then this is the best time to change this thread's data and move to Supertall section.
