‘World dance fest at Amaravati soon’

Amaravati will soon witness an international dance festival, according to Jayachandran Palazhy, artistic director of Attakkalari Centre for Movement Art, based at Bengaluru.

He visited the art gallery at the Centre for Culture for Vijayawada and Amaravati (CCVA) at Moghalrajapuram on Monday.

Workshop

He said his institute along with NTR Trust will soon stage an awareness workshop for the youngsters on the advanced dance movement and choreography. Later, he went around the gallery and elicited first-hand information on the works taken up the CCVA on dance, music and on other fine art segments like sculpting.

City to echo with Women’s Day celebrations

Chief Minister to felicitate women achievers from various walks of life

On Wednesday (March 8), International Women’s Day, the city will echo with speeches and slogans of women empowerment with a host of government departments, service organisations and NGOs all set to celebrate it in a grand fashion.

Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu will attend a programme organised by the Women and Child Welfare department at the Tummalapalli Kalakshetram at 10 a.m., said Krishna district Collector Babu A., in a statement on Tuesday.

He said women achievers from various walks of life would be felicitated.

Workshop today

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) will celebrate the day in the new office of the party in Guntur district at 11 a.m., said State Telugu Mahila president Shobha Hymavathi.

Marking the significant day, HELP, an organisation promoted by a group of journalists and social workers, will organise a workshop “Emerging Trends in the Media on issues of Child Marriage, Child Trafficking and Sexual Exploitation,” at 10 a.m. in the TANA building in Hanumanpet.

City-based NGO Vasavya Mahila Mandali (VMM), in association with the Mahila Mitra, community movement for a women-friendly city, will felicitate women achievers at 11.30 a.m.

A song written by Anand Korva, composed by C.N. Aditya, Hyderabad, and sung my Mallik, Vijayawada, will be released.

Former MP and Vasavya Mahila Mandali president Chennupati Vidya will preside over the programme while former adviser to the Government of AP K.P.C. Gandhi, Joint Commissioner of Police P. Hari Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police Kanti Rana Tata and a couple of foreign delegates will be part of the programme.

In the Ancient Amaravathi Town, Communications Adviser to the State Government Parakala Prabhakar will participate in the celebrations at the Amaravathi Heritage Centre and Museum. CEO, AP Creativity and Culture Commission Vizai Bhaskar, senior adviser to the Danish Agency for Culture Ida Braendholt Lundgaard, chief curator, Amaravathi Heritage Centre and Museum Amareswar Galla and others will participate.

Garment expo a big draw in Vijayawada

Style and Weaves, a three-day exhibition-cum-sale of handloom and designer garments was inaugurated at Seshasai Kalyana Mandapam in the city on Tuesday.
The exhibition with 65 stalls brought under one roof myriad flavours of the latest trends in the garments. Hyderabad-based organisation ‘My Identity’ organised the exhibition on the eve of International Women’s Day.

The expo, which is on till March 9, has brought together the best of works of fashion designers and artisans showcasing garments and lifestyle accessories. The exhibition has on display, designer saris, dress material, jewellery and lifestyle accessories. Designers from Kolkata, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Delhi and Hyderabad have descended to showcase their handicrafts, gold jewellery, imitation jewellery, hand bags and other fancy items.

“We have timed the exhibition with the festival season to enable buyers pick the best stuff available in both traditional and modern segments,” said event manager Manjulatha. She said the objective of the expo is to promote designers, women entrepreneurs, and artisans. She said the local crowd have a sound knowledge of the latest trends and the expo was here to cater to their fashion garments’ needs.
The best part of the exhibition is that it offers the best of both worlds, traditional and contemporary.

Jewellery and designer expo in city

As many as 916 designs of lockets, pendants, necklaces are on display

Destination Events and Expo, a three-day exhibition-cum-sale of gold jewellery and designer garments and accessories, unveiled at A1 Convention hall on Friday drew good response on the first day.

Trendy designs

Devineni Anupama, wife of Irrigation Minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao, inaugurated the event. She said such events were the best thing to happen for those looking for festival and marriage shopping.

Youngsters could rely on this place for trendy designs, be it jewellery or clothing.

K. Sindhura and D. Srinadh, organisers of the event, said this was their first exhibition in Andhra Pradesh. They said all the designs were created by their in-house weavers.

As many as 916 designs of lockets, pendants, chokers, bangles, rings, chains, necklaces and waist belts were on display. Besides, there are silver articles and one gram jewellery.

Among garments, the expo offers silk saris, Uppada silk, Venkatagiri, wedding saris, bridal saris, Mangalagiri dress material, kurtis and tops, bed-sheets, door curtains, diwan sets, hand bags, footwear and other lifestyle products.

The exhibition is open for public till 9 p.m. on Sunday (March 26).
