Sathagalli IMTC as seen from Outer Ring Road

Some features of Mysore outer ring road which I liked the most--

*Wide median

*At some stretches trees are planted

*Can expect awesome shady stretches

*Service road on either side

*BRTS Planned -IMTCs -Sathagalli,RS Naidu nagar,Yelwala and JP Nagar(Planned)

*Lamps are being built at either ends of the carriageway, lighting up both the main road and the service road.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

I would expect the median to look something like that of the law court road/krishnaraja boulevard, possible?

Another work in progress that augurs well for the city's future is the six-laning of the 42 km Outer Ring Road likely to be completed by July, 2011 at a cost of nearly Rs.239 crore. Though the project was to be ready by February, incessant rains till late November in 2010 led to delays but the authorities are confident of completing the work by July. Once completed, the ORR will be able to handle greater volume of traffic and will serve the city's needs till 2030 as per estimates.
The Hindu

First it was February then June and now likely July

MUDA COMR. BETSURMATH INSPECTS OUTER RING ROAD

Quote:

Centre's nod awaited for executing Rs. 200 cr 9.3 km long 6-lane project

Mysore, Apr. 1 (KMC&RK)- Work on the 9.3-km-long stretch of the Outer Ring Road (ORR) from Bannur Road junction to the Nanjangud Road junction, that remains pending since the past few years, is poised to commence in a couple of months’ time. Hopefully.

Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) Commissioner Dr. C.G. Betsurmath, who, along with a team of officials, conducted an inspection of the road through padayatra since 7.30 am today, told Star of Mysore that the Detailed Project Report of the road work, taken up under the JNNURM project had been sent to the Central Government for approval. "The expense is estimated at Rs. 200 crore, with State's contribution of 20%," he said, adding that once the Centre's approval was obtained, the State's permission will be sought and after calling e-tenders, work will commence in two months' time.

"A total of 83 acres of land required for the 45 metres wide six-lane Ring Road has already been acquired last year," said Dr. Betsurmath.

Though several land-holders had approached the court opposing the land acquisition, all the cases were cleared except one in Alanahalli village, under Survey No. 74, about which Dr. Betsurmath held discussions with the Land Acquisition officials after the padayatra. Another meeting with the Town Planning officials will be held later in the day.

The entire project of converting the 42 kms long Ring Road into 6-lane is estimated at Rs. 239 crore. This includes the pending stretch of 9.3 kms.

Dr. Betsurmath, along with Superintending Engineer K.P. Shivakumar, Assistant Executive Engineer (Electrical) Nagaraj, Zonal Officer Panduranga and others, inspected the road passing through Alanahalli, Lalithadripura, Nadahalli, Sarkari Uthanalli, Hosahundi and Bandipalya APMC [touching the Nanjangud Road] checking for the presence of lakes, streams or other such obstructions where bridges or culverts need to be constructed.

The Outer Ring Road almost makes a circle around the city except for the break at the southeast quarter, where the Chamundi Hill is located. The road networks of Mysore city is in a grid-iron fashion with numerous parallel roads passing through city. There are 5 radial roads, all originating from Mysore Palace, a focal point of the city. These radial roads are highways that connect Mysore with neighboring towns and cities.

Almost all these highways intersect the ORR at some point (about 5km from city centre). The ORR serves as a bypass as well as a city road.

Construction of a stretch of ORR in Mysore awaiting Central nod

Quote:
Shankar Bennur
MYSORE: The Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) is awaiting the Centre's nod for construction of a 9.33-km stretch of the ORR, linking Nanjangud Road and Bannur Road.

This stretch was left out at the time of construction owing to paucity of funds. At present, the existing section of the 32.3-km ORR is being widened into a six-lane road under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).

The MUDA is also planning to develop the stretch between Nanjangud Road and Bannur Road into a six-lane road so that the ORR widening project is completed simultaneously.

Speaking to The Hindu, MUDA Commissioner C.G. Betsurmath said a revised detailed project report (DPR) for Rs. 239 crore had been sent to the Centre.

The DPR for Rs. 219 crore sent earlier had been approved, and the Centre had released the first instalment for carrying out the widening works in four phases.

Revised costs

“With the inclusion of work on completing the ORR under the JNNURM, the revised project cost was prepared and sent to the Centre. We are expecting the second instalment from the Centre soon,” the Commissioner said.

‘Land acquisition over'

Mr. Betsurmath said land acquisition along the 9.33-km ORR stretch had been completed, the road alignment had been done and the work areas would be marked. The stretch passes through Lalithadri Nagar, the new layout being developed by the MUDA at the Chamundi foothills.

The Centre will cover 80 per cent of the project cost, while the State Government and MUDA will contribute 10 per cent each. The MUDA had proposed widening the ORR to eight lanes. However, it later resolved to widen the ORR to six lanes, using the amount saved to complete the Nanjangud-Bannur Road stretch.

When Deputy Commissioner Harsh Gupta was MUDA Chairman, he had asked officials to modify the project proposal and send it to the Government for approval.

‘Works important'

The Road Safety Committee felt that widening of the ORR and completion of the Nanjangud-Bannur Road stretch was important to ease traffic congestion in the city.

Officials directed to ensure adherence to standards in execution of project

Modification: ORR Project likely to be delayed
Mysore, April 20, DHNS :
Quote:
Chairman of the Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) L Nagendra and Commissioner Dr C G Betsurmath on Wednesday inspected the ongoing work on the Outer Ring Road (ORR) and directed the engineers over the speedy completion of the work.

The MUDA Chairman who accompanied a band of officials from the engineering department asked authorities to ensure that the contractors executed a quality work on the entire stretch of six-lane ORR.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, Commissioner Betsurmath said that about 40 per cent work on the ORR was completed so far.

The MUDA has sent revised estimates and DPR for the project which was originally conceived for ` 219 crore.

The revised DPR estimates a spending of ` 239 crore as the project includes the covering of the stretch between Bannur road junction and Nanjangud Road junction.

“The Government has approved the revised DPR. We hope to complete the work on the ORR as soon as possible. Though, the original deadline for the project was July 2011, the completion of work may take more time due to modifications in the DPR,” he said.

The work has been tendered in four packages and has begun simultaneously which would help the early completion of the project.

Though, the work on the stretch and asphaltation may complete early, the bridges and other miscellaneous works will consume more time, he opined.
