Akzo Nobel Mysore project

Guys, I am sure by next year this time Akzo Nobel project also would have been more or less constructed and will add to the glitz of Thandya industrial estate. They are going to invest 200 and odd crores on this project which is going to be one of the few sophisticated ones.

Freudenberg to invest Rs 130 cr in its Mysore cement project

Quote:
The family-owned German company, Freudenberg Group, is investing around Rs 130 crore in its existing project in Mysore, making it the company’s largest investment in the Asia-Pacific region.

The product development laboratories in Mysore will become a regional competence centre for specialty lubricants, release agents and maintenance products. The centre will serve Freudenberg’s customers in Southeast Asia and the Pacific Rim as well as some global needs as a technical centre of excellence.

Its companies, Chem-Trend and Klüber Lubrication India, are building the group’s most modern facilities. Since its launch in 2011, first buildings have been erected. By 2016, when the project is scheduled for completion, this state-of-the-art facility will provide 17,000 m2 of covered space. Total area is around 40,000 sq m. An additional plot of land covering over 8,000 sq m has been acquired.

Specialty lubricants, release agents and maintenance products being manufactured in the Freudenberg Company Klüber Lubrication plant operating here since 1989. Its brands of Klüber Lubrication, Chem-Trend and OKS presently have various applications in different industries such as infrastructure, automotive, energy and food industry.

The plant employs some 110 employees. It is expected to add over 100 people. Positions in production, quality management, logistics, and product development will be filled by chemical and mechanical engineers, managers and other skilled professionals.

“This investment reiterates the importance of the Indian market for Freudenberg Group,” said Jörg Matthias Großmann, Freudenberg Group Regional Representative for India and Chief Financial Officer for Freudenberg Chemical Specialities, in Mysore.

Speaking to reporters, he said, “For years, Mysore had been one of the key manufacturing locations for Freudenberg, a family-owned German company. It is assuming an important role in Freudenberg’s innovation strategy. The existing infrastructure, mild climate, qualified partners and skilled workforce make Mysore a logical choice for future expansion.”

Freudenberg has held business ties with customers and partners in India for almost 100 years. The group has a workforce of over 3,000 at 28 locations. It generated Rs 956 crore sales during fiscal 2011.

A joint venture, Freudenberg Gala Household Products, opened a plant for production of mechanical household cleaning products in Adas, near Anand, Gujarat investing around Rs 20 crore. Freudenberg Filtration Technologies India in Pune acquired the specialty filter manufacturer Pyramid Filters in April 2012.

By the end of the month, EagleBurgmann, a manufacturer of sealing technology, will complete another important project, a new Rs 10 crore R&D laboratory in Pune, Großmann said.

“The Freudenberg Group will continue to grow its activities in India both through internal growth and through strategic acquisitions,” he emphasised.

Mysore could log IT corridor in this year's Karnataka govt budget

Quote:
The city could get IT township spread over 1,500 acres in this edition of the state budget.

Following request from the IT sector to expand its activities in the Tier-II city, the state government has identified the land for the proposed township and it is expected to be announced in the budget to be presented on February 8, district minister S A Ramdas said on Thursday. Land for the proposed township is identified at three spots. "I've requested the CM Jagadish Shettar to include the project in the budget," he told reporters on the sidelines of a pre-budget meeting attended by stakeholders in the growth of the city.

According to the minister, a facility to facilitate export of goods from the industrial areas in and around the city is submitted for inclusion in the budget. Rs 60 crore cancer hospital at P K Sanatorium is also likely to be announced in the budget. An authority for the promotion of tourism in five districts surrounding Mysore could be announced, he stated. Though the minister admitted that the entry tax for the vehicles entering the state is high, he said it is unlikely to be cut. Seven medical colleges which have been approved by the cabinet after clearance from the MCI will also be announced in the budget, Ramdas, who is medical education minister, explained.

During the meeting, the stakeholders asked the government to improve infrastructure in the city and increase air connectivity. They sought a separate industrial township for the management of industrial areas but asked the government to give special attention to tourism sector pointing out that it will spur economy activities in the city and region.

The industry captains asked KIADB to construct a helipad in the industrial area which is spread over 10,000 acres and allotment of industrial land on lease basis to prevent the prime industrial land used for real estate business.

Wow Mysore needs this man..More of these
I am sure we will get to hear more of these as another German company (just forgot the name) into Industrial automation has made Mysore as Head quarters for whole of India. They claim the salubrious climate, relatively peaceful labour, good infrastructure and nearness to Bangalore has made them to choose Mysore as their HO. I will give the name as soon as I recollect it.
What Mysore surely wants is the air connectivity now without which it will loose out to other cities.

Corporate Watch: inky fingers

Quote:
The inedible ink produced by Mysore Paints and Varnish (MPVL) will mark millions of index fingers across India this year, with parliamentary elections due in the world’s largest democracy.
Since 1962, this little-known company has had an exclusive government licence to supply Voters’ Ink for parliamentary and local elections. MPVL exports the ink around the world, from Turkey and Nepal to Ghana and South Africa. The product is used to stop voters repeat voting and by the company’s estimate, has been used on over 6bn people.

Produced by a limited number of companies and used infrequently, Election Ink isn’t something people are very familiar with. The product has come to the attention of Indian audiences after a popular advertising campaign from Badshahi Inks. A man emerges gasping from a bathtub filled with a viscous black liquid. “We say… no to animal testing”, goes the tagline.
But, as the name suggests, ink isn’t MPVL’s only business. The company also produces paints, polishes, enamels and thinners. One new addition to the range is state of the art polyurethane paint which is used in the automotive sector and will initially be sold to state transport corporations.

Set up in 1937 by the royal family of Mysore, southern India, MPVL became a public sector organisation a decade later. Even now, most clients are government bodies and the government of Karnataka has a 92-per-cent shareholding, with the remaining 8 per cent in private hands.

“We make a nominal profit and pay dividends to the state government”, managing director, M.V.Hemanta Kumar, told beyondbrics. MPVL paid 40 per cent of its profits out in dividends, amounting to Rs4.2m, in 2007-08.
The company has made profits in each of the last nine years. In 2010-2011, it earned profits after tax of Rs9.4m ($170,000) on revenues of Rs107.1m. Of this, Rs64.8m came from sales of inedible ink and Rs42.3m from the paints business.
These are the latest available figures and the two-year delay in financial reporting says a lot about the casual, unorganised culture at this business despite its important role in Indian society. In its dealings with MPVL, beyondbrics discovered first-hand that the company doesn’t have an organised finance team, let alone a press office.

With elections all over India in coming months, Kumar said turnover will rise 20 to 30 per cent this year. “We have huge production capacity, so we can expand production 200 per cent or even 300 per cent”, he said. “Our capacity is 1,000 metric tonnes per year so we can set our targets depending on the orders we receive.”

MPVL currently employs around 100 people in Mysore and uses a lot of casual labour, rather than permanent staff. Its ambitions involve expansion across India and investment in marketing and sales.

On its website, the company declares that it requires funding of Rs2.5m from the government to develop its marketing operations. It is automating machinery at its plants to speed up the production process and modernising its showrooms in Bangalore and Mysore to boost sales. “Naturally, any company is interested in growth. We aren’t looking for international expansion but maybe growth within the state”, Kumar added.
MPVL’s website underlines the deep domestic roots of the business. It says:
The production of the company mainly depends on the raw materials purchased from most of the neighboring states as well as North Indian States. For example, chemicals required for production are bought from Maharashtra, Oil and pigments are purchased from Puna, resins from Indore and extendrs from Uttar Pradesh…

One less prominent section on the website provides “tips” for people buying paint. Apparently, the colour grey “will inspire people to do more for a longer period” and “the chemical reaction of red while eating will cause a person to eat more and stay longer”, “making this an ideal color for restaurant decor or in bars”. The advice is especially bizarre given MPVL produces paint mostly for industrial and automotive uses.

Despite its eccentricity, there is a lot to learn from MPVL. Just 20 minutes spent asking members of the Indian public which finger is marked at election time is a lesson in voter apathy. (In New Delhi it’s the left forefinger, according to beyondbrics research. But elsewhere other digits are favoured).
