CM URGED TO ESTABLISH INDUSTRY FACILITATION COUNCIL
Quote:
Mysore Industries Association's pre-budget wish-list

Mysore, June 26 - Reposing its faith in Chief Minister Siddharamaiah’s experience as Finance Minister, the Mysore Industries Association (MIA) has sought the establishment of an Industry Facilitation Council in Mysore which can also serve neighbouring districts of Mandya, Hassan, Chamarajanagar and Bangalore.

In a pre-budget wish-list to Siddharamaiah, a copy of which was released here on Monday, MIA has urged the Chief Minister to present a budget to stimulate growth in the industrial sector which is reeling under the impact of recession.

The wish-list submitted by MIA President P. Vishwanath and General Secretary Suresh Kumar Jain also urges the Chief Minister to lay emphasis on promoting Micro and Small Scale Industries as they had a tremendous potential in generating employment and enabling rural development.

The list also urges for a policy to encourage self employment and Gram Panchayats to be model centres in promoting small scale industries besides seeking budgetary support of Rs. 15 lakh for the establishment of a Global Industry and Facilitation Centre.

In view of the projected growth of Mysore, the MIA said that a dedicated helipad was essential for the benifit of industries in the Mysore Industrial Area. If the government approves the proposal and supports it, the MIA was prepared to maintain the helipad for its operations.

Drawing the attention of Siddharamaiah to the Cluster Development Model and its importance for the orderly growth of industries, the MIA has sought a policy initiative from the government towards the developoment of industrial plots and disbursing them to eligible entrepreneurs in the micro and small scale sector at concessional rates of 75% of the total cost.

Taking exceptions to the happazard development of industries, the MIA has urged Siddharamaiah to ensure that there was no violation of zoning regulations in the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board.

Laying importance on consevation of environment in industrial area, MIA said that there should be a crack down on encroachment of lakes and water bodies, and the existing green belts and open spaces should be protected. They also sought a uniform commercial tax policy saying that the existing commercial tax rates were not favorable to the industry.

MIA has urged the government to fulfill the promises made in the previous budgets such as constitution of the industrial township authority, export centre and separate water works at a cost of Rs. 100 crore to supply six Million Gallons a Day (MGD) of water to induistrial areas.

Karnataka govt to develop IT parks in Belgaum, Mysore, Mangalore

Quote:
In an effort to decongest Bangalore city and promote the information technology sector in secondary cities, the Karnataka government has chalked out plans to set up IT parks in Belgaum, Mysore and Mangalore. The government has intends to develop these parks on a public-private partnership (PPP) mode, a senior government official said.

"We have come out with a proposal to develop IT parks in these cities, where there is immense scope to promote IT industry. The Karnataka State Electronics Development Corporation Limited (Keonics) has in its possession land in Mysore and Mangalore already. We are looking for a suitable land in Belgaum and we wish to set up IT parks on the model of ITPL in Bangalore, in these places," I S N Prasad, principal secretary, department of IT, BT and science and technology, told Business Standard.

He said, the department would invest an estimated Rs 60 crore to Rs 70 crore on each of these parks and is also looking for private sector companies to partner the government.

Each of these IT parks will have a minimum area of 100,000 sq ft and accommodate IT companies, Prasad said after the meeting between S R Patil, minister for IT, BT and science and technology, and U R Rao, former chairman of ISRO, and chairman of Karnataka Science and Technology Academy (KSTA).

At the meeting, Patil sought Rao's advice on implementing science and technology projects in the state.

Though it was a courtesy call, he discussed topics ranging from nano technology to establishment of IIT and semiconductor corridor in the state. They decided to meet at regular intervals to discuss how the state could be developed into a hub of science and research field.

Later, Patil reviewed development schemes with the heads of Karnataka Biotechnology Information Technology Services (KBITS), Keonics, Karnataka State Remote Sensing Applications Centre (KSRSAC) coming under his ministry.

Prasad said, IT parks are already functioning in Hubli-Dharwad, Gulbarga and Shimoga. There were 25 IT companies in Mysore and they were exporting software worth Rs 1,633 crore. A Rs 975 crore of export revenues were generated from 17 IT companies at Mangalore IT Park. As many as 12 IT units in Hubli were able to generate about Rs 15 crore export revenue, he added.

Patil directed the officials to find suitable land at Belgaum and other cities for development of IT parks. He also asked the officials to rejuvenate IT park in Hubli.

The minister is scheduled to pay visit to IT Park at Electronic City on Tuesday.

‘Mysore has potential for IT expansion’

Quote:
Mysore contributes only 2 per cent of the total software exports from the State. By 2020, software exports from Mysore should go up to at least Rs. 20,000 crore, co-chairman of the Karnataka ICT Group B.V. Naidu said here on Saturday.

Mr. Naidu, who has served as director of Software Technology Park of India (STPI) in Bangalore, said Mysore was the second city after Bangalore where STPI launched its activities in 1999 to promote IT development.

“Nearly 14,000 to 15,000 employees are working in the IT industry in Mysore, exporting software worth Rs. 2,000 crore. This is less for a city like Mysore which has immense potential for IT expansion. We have larger expectations from Mysore,” he said at the inauguration of SPICity Phase II of Software Paradigms Infotech Pvt. Ltd.

Mr. Naidu said more IT companies must focus on expanding their operations to Mysore, and the city needs at least 1,000 successful start-ups to take the IT growth forward and realise the target.

Mr. Naidu, who is chairman and CEO of Sagitaur Ventures India Pvt. Ltd., said the Karnataka ICT Group had identified seven cities, including Mysore, for IT expansion as the target set for 2020 was to increase software exports to Rs. 4,00,000 crore and create 20 lakh jobs.

Talent development centre, incubation centre and innovation centre would be opened in these seven cities for IT expansion, he said.

Mr. Naidu suggested that the growth had to be balanced between IT and electronics.

Referring to attrition in IT companies in Mysore, he advised knowledge workers not to leave the city and instead help in the efforts being made to develop and promote Mysore as the next best destination for the IT sector.
