Andhra Pradesh's New Capital Amravati To Have India's First Underwater Tunnel!

Quote:
India's newest state capital Amaravati will get an underwater tunnel in river Krishna, about three-km long, for vehicular traffic if the state government has its way. The detailed master plan for the upcoming capital envisages a transparent road tunnel from beneath the river connecting the administrative capital with Vijayawada, the commercial hub of Andhra Pradesh.
Andhra Pradesh
SouthReport
Once completed, it will be the first ever underwater road tunnel in the country. There are about 200 such tunnels around the world. The designers from Singapore have included the under-river tunnel in the detailed master plan for Amaravati which was released late on Saturday night.
The tunnel, which the AP government plans to project as a major tourist attraction, will come up near Ibrahimpatnam on the outskirts of Vijayawada. The backwaters of the Prakasam barrage in Vijayawada extend up to Ferry village near Ibrahimpatnam. Since the proposed tunnel is transparent, motorists using it can see aquatic life.
Andhra Pradesh
The Hindu
The underwater tunnel project was included in the detailed master plan following the advice of chief minister Chandrababu Naidu. The capital city core area will be linked to river bank on the Vijayawada side.
Incidentally, the Union shipping ministry recently launched a feasibility study on two such tunnels. While one of the tunnels connects Kakdwip and Sagar Island in West Bengal, the other links Chatham and Bamboo Flat in Andaman Nicobar islands.
The Centre has already handed over the task of studying the projects to the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL). Subsequently, NHIDCL has called for tenders from consultants to prepare the techno-economic study of both the tunnel stretches.
The AP government will soon approach the Centre seeking approval for the tunnel in the river Krishna. Officials argue that an underwater tunnel costs less than an overbridge. "The underwater tunnel will be an instant hit with tourists. Even if the project costs a little more, we will go ahead with it. The state will earn considerable revenue from tourists," said a senior planner in the AP Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA).
Andhra Pradesh

The detailed master plan proposes the underwater tunnel to the "west side" of the government core area where Assembly, Secretariat and Raj Bhavan would come up. The master plan also proposes a `gigantic' giant wheel on the riverbank to give the capital city a `distinct identity'. The giant wheel will function round the clock to attract tourists.

Capital highway to be expanded in Amaravati

Quote:
Capital highway to be expanded in Amaravati * Six-lane road proposed on Grand Trunk Road to Velagapudi.

Guntur: The old Vijayawada-Madras Grand Trunk Road is going to be the first six-lane road in Amaravati.

The works of temporary Secretariat complex at Velagapudi has been speeded up in the past few days as the two contractors are taking up works round-the-clock. The construction of pillars of the temporary Secretariat complex is going to be completed and construction of concrete slab would be the next process.

The tiny roads are creating problems for the transportation of material to the construction site at Velagapudi. Moreover, these roads would not cater to the transportation needs of the ministers, officials and employees to reach the temporary Secretariat.

The officials have proposed widening the old grand trunk road into six lanes from Prakasam Barrage to Mangalagiri at a cost of Rs 37 crore. The CRDA constructed new roads linking Undavalli, Penumaka, Krishnayapalem, Velagapudi, Uddandarayunipalem and other villages to Krishna Karakatta Road, but as Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is living in the Lingamaneni guest house, the road is not permissible for transportation purposes.

Mr Naidu directed the CRDA to link the old Madras Road to Amaravati. Hence, the roads and buildings department, after conducting a survey, proposed widening the road to 120 feet with six lanes. An official of the CRDA said that a China based firm Gizou International Infrastructure Corporation (GIIC) will take up the project.

He said that present width of the old Madras Road is 40 to 60 feet in various areas in the stretch of 12 km between Prakasam barrage to Mangalagiri and it will be widened for a hassle-free journey to Velagapudi.

The locals of Undavalli, Dolasnagar and other areas adjacent to old Madras GT Road recalled that this road was the main source of transportation till 1987. But later, the union government constructed Vijayawada Chennai NH which diverted the traffic to the new highway.

Representatives of GIIC inspected the old Madras Road and collected details from the CRDA, R & B and revenue departments on the traffic, encroachments and needs of the public for widening the road.

things are getting better and better ...
earlier article on Seed Capital Access road: http://www.deccanchronicle.com/15080...w-capital-soon

Quote:
... the APCRDA is planning to construct the four lane road besides Varadhi connecting Tadepalli, Undavalli, Penumaka, Malkapuram, Mandadam, Lingayapalem, Tallayapalem and Tullur.

The Vijayawada-Chennai and Vijayawada-Guntur railway line comes between Varadhi and Tadepalli on the proposed four lane road so a flyover cum rail over bridge has been proposed to avoid frequent stopping of traffic. About 500 trains, including goods trains pass through each day at Tadepalli railway gate...
now extended Tullur to Borupalem to join Amaravati Road!

The Chief Minister reviewed the progress of projects taken up by the Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department on Sunday.

He asked the officials to prepare plans for the ORR so that the new Capital city would not face traffic snarls. The people in existing cities were facing hardship as the highway was passing through them, he pointed out.

It would help in speeding up of road widening and construction of new highways, he said adding about 680 km of two-lane national highways have to be converted to four-lane highways with assistance from NHAI..

today i went to check the construction works of Secretariat, it is not seed access road.

It is new road ( straight 3.5 kms length and 60 feet width 4 lane road ) which starts at 1km before the venkatepalem check-post to reach secretariat which will act as bypass to congested roads Mandadam village and it will reduces the distance from 5 kms to 3.5 kms

regarding SEED acess road works are started at Dondapadu, 1 to 2 kms ground work is done and works are going on, it is 60 mts width road
