We are at least 6-7 months away from actual ground works on NH 275. As the independent engineer is yet to come on board. The development period for Independent engineer is 6 months from the date of award of contract. #Mysuru #Nidaggatta #Bengaluru NH 275

Earlier I saw tender for independent consultants and now for Safety consultants. Is these are mandatory before actual work starts on the Bangalore Mysore. It is now near to 4 months tender has been awarded to Dilip Buildcon and not sure when the actual work is going to start.

Yes all consultants have to come on board. Works will start in december or early 2019

Win for green activists: NHAI to transplant trees while widening Bengaluru-Mysuru highway

After an outcry, the Authority in a recent meeting with activists and the Forest Department agreed to move the trees to a different location, not cut them.

Environmental activists who had slammed the merciless chopping down of 200 trees to widen a small stretch of the Bengaluru-Mysuru Highway now have reason to cheer.

The National Highways Authority of India on Sunday held a meeting with jurisdictional forest officers and green activists, and agreed to transplant a majority of the trees in the medians of the highway.

The decision was taken on Sunday during a follow-up meeting of a mandatory public consultation by the Forest Department. The 4.2-km stretch, which is being widened, starts from Mysuru Circle (Columbia Asia) and ends at Kalaswadi village. There are 209 trees in this stretch alone.

“This is good news, as we can maintain the trees in an alignment. They have agreed to give a median space of around 4.5 meters, where the transplantation and plantation work can be done. They have also agreed to give one-metre space on either side of the road for the trees. And, given many of the trees are eucalyptus, this is a win-win option and it is very doable,” Vijay Nishanth, an eco-conservationist, said.

The Project Director from the National Highways Authority of India, BT Sridhara, confirmed this development to TNM.

Another eco-conservationist based in Mysuru, Thejaswi B, said, “In the meeting, there were a lot of people from Mysuru and it went on for a long time. We spoke about how we need to preserve these heritage trees (trees on the verge of extinction). We asked them (the NHAI) to mark the green parts formally, and they agreed to this and sought time to acquire additional land. They said they will include the green parts in the highway plan itself.”

Eucalyptus, although very sturdy by nature, are bad for biodiversity as they suck in water and nutrients from the soil, making it hard for other plant species to survive in the same habitat.

The NHAI is also exploring if corporates would be interested in collaborating with them in the transplant of trees. Further specifics will be discussed in another meeting by the three parties, sources said.

In June, activists had raised alarm bells over the alleged reluctance of the Forest Department for not exploring alternatives to save the green cover in this stretch.

Speaking to TNM at that time, Thejaswi had said, “They want to repeat the same process followed 50 years ago. All these trees are decades old. To grow one such tree, it will take so much time. But the authorities are not concerned.”

Not sure whom to believe.. modi govt talks of speedy highway works. On the other hand they are struggling to pass a simple tender. Shouldn't they have cleared these tenders before even awarding the civil works tender. At least work parallely instead of such serial working which leads to wastage of time & eventual loss of economic benefits for the region. I fail to understand how different NHAI has been under this Govt.

The six-lane work on Bengaluru-Mysuru National Highway is expected to start within two months as over 80% of the land has been acquired, Public Works Minister H.D. Revanna said on Monday.

“The work on construction of a bypass to avoid traffic at Bidadi and Ramanagaram has already started and is likely to be completed in six or seven months,” he told reporters here.

“The main cause of delay in taking up the work has been the acquisition process. Under the norms, the National Highway Authority of India takes up work only after completion of land acquisition to an extent of 80%. We have already completed it and asked the contractor to take up the project,” he said.

Further, the long-pending demand of the Centre to reduce tax on the project from 12.5% to 2.5% has been implemented by the State, he said.

Providing details about the project, Mr. Revanna said that a 23 km combined bypass has been planned for Ramanagaram and Channapatna, while the bypass for Bidadi, Maddur and Mandya will be about 11 km each.

The Minister also said that nearly ₹1,000 crore worth of bills towards the road works taken up are yet to be paid by the Centre under the Central Road Fund.

Yesterday was bid open for the safety consultants, tried finding whom it is been awarded but not got it. Is this awarded?

No they are not awarded. Still technical evaluation is to be done and then financial evaluation. Only technical bid opening has been achieved as of now.In one case only sole bidder is observed so that might be re tendered.
