Delhi is a different kind of beast and i havent seen bangalore so cant say.

Malls will find it hard to survive in city like jaipur where life is not so fast paced and there are 100s of years old market which dominate among locals and foreigners alike. Which mall can compete with bapu bazar, nehru bazar, chaura rasta, etc etc. Malls in Jaipur will have to adopt the character of jaipur if they want to succeed in short time.

PS. In general i am not a big fan of Indian malls anyways.

Manchester United sets its Jaipur goal

JAIPUR: The elite foreign brands scouting for upscale retail infrastructure has finally found an address in the Pink City. More than two dozen of them have struck deals with the World Trade Park and interestingly some of them like Manchester United would be arriving in India for the first time with a store in Jaipur.

Besides the infrastructure, a new transparent business model is contributing to the brands' new found interest. Leasing of retail space is falling out of favour as retailers opt for revenue sharing which among other benefits reduces risks.

"Even though some deals are still based on rentals, revenue sharing is becoming the preferred route. This is going to be the future of retail as it brings rationality, transparency and significantly cuts the risk factor for the retailer," said Anoop Bartaria, promoter of the WTP.

In the absence of top-end retail infrastructure, many international brands stayed away from the city. But that's been changing fast. Zara, Mango, Pramod, Veromoda, Boggi, Warner Brothers, Vans, Guess, Catwalk, La Senza, Inglot, Aldo, Charles & Keith, Nine West, Queue Up, Bebe Accessories and Delsey have shown appetite and tied up with WTP.

"Many of these brands were reluctant to come to Jaipur and had an idea of making their entry in 2018. But the market has significantly improved over last couple of years. As we took these retailers around the city and explained the potential, they were convinced and consequently advanced their entry by five years. That is the reason why they have decided to come now," said Sanjeev Malhotra, a brand consultant, who has been working for WTP, Jaipur Central and Elements Mall.

Jalsa, another new mall set for debut next month, has been able to rope in around 25 retailers. But when the mall gets fully functional, it will be home to about 300 brands with 100 of them being global retailers.

"Jalsa has brought a unique product to Jaipur in the form of snow-world, the largest in the country and second after Hyderabad. The snow-world has been developed with French technology, the best in the world. Besides, we have also a under water scuba walk entertainment facility. While these attractions would be Jalsa's main USP, the mall will host about 100 international retailers and 200 domestic brands," said Sachin Gupta, head of Jalsa, promoted by Delhi-based Innovative.

However, Nitin Sharma of Pink Square said though the presence of big brands has an advantage but making the mall a happening place requires a lot of other things. He said Jaipur has long been a destination for film shooting, but we are trying to make it a destination of film promotions with Bollywood stars coming and promoting their films in the mall. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/c.../19267702.cms?
