Looking forward to the main scaffold coming down on this one should be a massive improvement

This is one where I’d be happy if they just put grey cladding up on the sides where the old signs are and blank brickwork

Unless we can get some LED advertisement screens up there maybe

I've noticed the scaffolding is going up on the New Street side now.

The government is to open a hub in a prominent Birmingham building which will be home to about 1,700 civil servants from 2021.

The hub will be based at Platform 21, which is inside the former Woolworths building in the New Street Conservation area. It will be developed by LaSalle Investment Management working with development manager Evenacre.

It is the second hub to be announced for Birmingham and follows 3 Arena Central, which will house 3,600 staff when it opens in 2021.

Simon Hart, minister for Implementation at the Cabinet Office, said: "Developing Government Hubs helps to bring forward vital regeneration projects across the country and boost local economies.

"It also makes sure government workers have the best possible facilities and saves taxpayers’ money by replacing outdated office blocks which are expensive to maintain with more modern facilities."

Mayor of the West Midlands Andy Street added: "Simon and his team have recognised the city’s great transport links and infrastructure, and the fact the city, and indeed the wider region, has so much to offer.

"The West Midlands is going from strength to strength and I am delighted that the government continues to support us."

The government has also announced plans for a similar hub in Peterborough.

Excellent news for Birmingham.

Do we know if the 1,700 civil servants are already working in the West Midlands or will it be relocations from other parts of the UK?

I’m sure public health England used to have offices at King Edward house which we’ve seen an app go in for conversion to hotel hopefully this is the way things go rather than leaving empty offices behind
