I've often thought Wolverhampton would be better off with just the one shopping centre and a longer high street leading nicely to the new markets.

So on FB they say Nickelmen and PDSA have moved to "make way for our new units". Wonder what we units those are? PDSA was next to what is becoming B&m, so we they knocking through? Nickelmen was in the old Adams.

So guys, I um... I think this is completed.

Studying the renders, the renders actually show the incomplete floor and ceilings. They had no intention of ever replacing them...

...

Anyway. Wrap Chic has closed down, as has Virgin Media. The unit that used to do milkshakes in the Wulfrun Centre is under offer.

Any update on if Debenhams may yet remain but downsize?

I've heard Primark will be refurbed as-is, which rules out pretty much the only tennant that would move in to the Debenhams unit. Unless M&S decide to have Wolvo as one of their "fewer, larger stores" model.

But no word yet, no.

Will the West Brom Primark have a second floor or is it off the cards now?

Not at the moment. Bham has been too successful and has drained all of the "umph". Also for reasons I can't divulge, the opportunity we had has now slipped and it's no longer immediately feasible as it was.

Starbucks and Wrapchic are the latest to close. Wrapchic has been replaced by The Big Phone Store, a cheapy phone shop.

Mander Shopping Centre | Wolverhampton | 94,000 sq ft department store | U/C

With the state of the Mander Centre now, I think it would have been better if they had just knocked it down and rebuilt the whole thing!! Birmingham did it and look what they ended up with!!
It’s about time ‘City’ of Wolverhampton Council had some balls and a bold vision for the future of this city!!

Confirmation that the ground (Dudley Street) floor will be B&M and the basement will be Wilko.

And confirmation that B&M will be plastering the store in their disgusting blue vinyls as always. Scruffbags.

There is a Halloween shop opening in the MC opposite Bodycare, looks similar to the one on Merry Hill.

Beatties (HoF) eyeing move to Debenhams once they vacate the centre in the new year.

Wilko announces opening date of the 15th November.IMG_0570.JPG

Well, on the one hand it is not completed - ceilings and floors still hanging off - but on the other, on closer inspection the renders do show the floor mismatched... They never intended to finish it...

I wonder what this does to retail in the city...

Will Blooms Menswear survive without being adjacent to House of Fraser?

Castle Galleries won't stay in Victoria Street I imagine, could it move into the Mander Centre?

Beatties is flanked by a few bridal shops, but without HoF these are isolated.

Then there are concessions within HoF which may no longer have a place, like Regis hair for example. That used to be a shop in the MC before moving.

I imagine a men's floor, women's floor and a homeware and Sports Direct floor. Floors are 30sq ft each and the current SD is 14k sq ft. I imagine that will close on Queen Street (which would actually be a good thing in some ways as they make King Street look horrible with their vinyls and poorly maintained service area).

I think it would be a great idea, Beatties has never been the same since HoF took it over, to have just a HoF store in the city would be better than trying to recreate Beatties which they will never be able to do.
With the Debenhams store as new as it is, it wouldn’t take much for HoF to move in and it’s actually great to see Mike Ashley using some common sense. Maybe we could see Sport Direct move back to the MC under the design that we’ve seen in Merry Hill.

Officially announced -

House of Fraser, Sports Direct USC and Flannels to move into the Mander Centre's Debenhams unit when it closes!

(Presumably Sports Direct will close on Queen Street, but that's no big loss, they don't treat the unit very well and somebody like Home Bargains could easily take it over).
