Rumbling Kern, Howick, Northumberland

A pleasant blue skied day on the Northumberland Coast today, cold in the breeze though and certainly plenty of folk out for a walk.

Rumbling Kern is considered to take its name from sea water which finds its way into the void within the rock and is expelled under pressure giving a rumbling sound.

It is also claimed to have been one of the sandy bays in Northumberland where illicit smuggling took place.

It was also used a scene in The Vera TV series.

Photographed 10th February 2018:

Not an ornithologist but I took these photographs of what I perceive to be two young Razorbills waiting to be fed by their parent - photographed 14th May 2018.

A few scenic shots from the Threlkeld Quarry and Mining Museum yesterday. Various types of machinery with some nice backdrops. I didn't get up to the very top level as there was nothing much to photograph, but the views from elsewhere on the site aren't too bad! Blencathra looks stunning on a day such as yesterday.

Little diesel loco and Blencathra.

Little diesel and that mountain again

Old excavators and the same mountain

Another big excavator with Blencathra

Various excavators with a different mountain (Clough Head)

Steam loco with Blencathra

Ta very much. The weather was fantastic (for Cumbria) yesterday, and on such a day the Threlkeld Mining Museum is a great place to be. It is not so good in inclement weather, not that there is ever any of that in Cumbria

Just an observation - but instead of posting about how good the images are, why not use the LIKE button, that is why it is there?

Thought that's what I have been doing--clicking on likes/thanks button,--as for replying to posts with photos,---it is just me expressing how good certain photos are,---but if you prefer me not to reply or comment on your photos,--then fair enough.

The idea of the Like button was to avoid the need for a post simply saying 'thanks', it was introduced to do just that and avoid unnecessary messages. It was also introduced to cut down on folk trying to build up their post totals.

I have my system set up to send an instant email as soon as a message is posted to my subscribed threads and every time you post a supplementary 'thanks' message up pops an email. Gets a bit of a disappointment to follow the link to see a message simply saying thanks.

If you have something constructive to say then do that but such duplication is something that isn't required.
