Ah, didn't realise that - it always felt the bigger shop to me. But then again, haven't been in BHS for a while!

But if thats the case, then it would make a good unit for TJ Hughes if they did want to come back into the city.

I've been thinking, and actually, BHS closing might be exactly what the Mander centre needs. BHS has been leeching the high street for years, stealing once great shops as concessions. Debenhams will also be largely concession based.

Without a BHS, we need individual shops for Burton, Dorothy Perkins, Wallis and Evans. We also need a city centre lighting shop, and a mid-end homeware shop.

How about this:

- Next take BHS in its entirety, branching into homeware, subletting the top floor to Costa and parts of the rest to Lipsy and Mango
- H&M take Woolworths
- Topshop take the new unit in Central Arcade
- River Island take Superdrug

Then opposite in the large units facing them we could have:

- Outfit in Rosemary's (to include Dorothy Perkins, Evans, Burton, Wallis)
- Monsoon Accessorize in former Sports Direct
- A lighting showroom in former Evans
- Mothercare (stay put)
- Laura Ashley on the corner (Walmsleys + Nickelmen)

Something like this basically:

I like the idea of Next taking over BHS as they would then have a larger home department.

But I would love to see shops in the Mander Centre that the likes of Birmingham, Merry Hill and Telford don't have, such as Pull & Bear, American Eagle, Springfield. Something different, I always thought that Victoria House on the Mander Centre car park would make a great food court.

Don't look too bad, looks like they'll need a mid sized unit, maybe the top of WH smith, or Lime.

Not heard of London Menswear before, however they sell some decent brands! Should be a welcome addition.

Dbadger, i really like your ideas for the mander centre. Next taking over BHS would be a brilliant idea! A huge home section would be great.

The new lift lobby is finished, and it's absolutely beautiful! It has Flooded the Centre with Natural Light™ with a massive window overlooking Farmer's Fold.

Farmer's Fold itself appears to be having work done to it. They are looking at the boarded up faux fronted shops on the blank side - I really hope they open these back up as shops again. Other bits of the facade are being looked at too.

Gordon Griffiths

You can see the window in the above actually, but there it's painted black with the 3 store in front of it. It's now bright and open.

- Superdrug is being fitted out in Blue Inc and the old one has started removing stands so they can move straight across
- London Menswear is being fitted out but so far it looks nothing special, looks on par with the Rebel/Paris shops to be honest, happy to be proven wrong but personally I don't sling clothes on the floor to set up a shop
- The restaurant unit on Victoria Street is under construction, the internal and external walls have all gone so it's just a big shell, not sure how they're going to level the floor
- Burger Proest has opened next door

Elsewhere, Herbert Brown is being fitted out in the Wulfrun Centre.

The new lift area looks brilliant! As Dbadger said, it really does let a lot of light in.

As stated Superdrug refit is coming along well. Looks like it will be a really good size, and obviously a lot more modern than the previous one.

Also agree London Menswear isn't looking as top-end as i was hoping, in fact it doesn't look much different to what was there previous. But, we have to give them a chance to develop.

Superdrug Update

So I have found out that apparently the move to the old Blue Inc unit is only temporary, as Superdrug will be moving into the old WH Smith unit eventually.

This will be a massive Superdrug if this happens!

That will be big, i'm just glad they are staying within the mander centre.

I wonder when we will be getting any announcements in regards to who will be filling the massive units on lower mall?

Does anybody know if the developers are planning to replace the flooring throughout the centre? Where new tiles are down they look really nice, but don't match the old? Surely they'll replace throughout..

The whole lot will be replaced. The bits down now are just where there was no floor before so they had to put the new tiles down.

Yeah, We've been missing information on this. The delivery plan is at best vague.

This should be really good for Wolverhampton. As a newbie to the city, I couldn't believe it didn't have an H&M! Surely the only city in the UK not to have one. I do wonder what the impact on Dudley Street will be, there are plenty of examples of shopping centres sucking the life out of neighbouring streets and hope this doesn't happen here.

Is the Mander Centre car park being redeveloped? Has to be the worst thing about the centre, awful internal design.

The Superdrug is all fitted out, and is... enormous. I can't quite describe.

The new motif on the ceiling that you can see by the lifts is actually pretty cool, the flooring seems quality and the glazing is amazing. This could actually be the catalyst wolves needs.

However, I do have the concern that this could leave the Wulfrun centre looking really drab.

The council have bought all properties adjoining the Wulfrun Centre on Bell Street, to be demolished. (They already owned those facing Cleveland Street). I reckon they are planning an extension of the centre Westwards especially as they also own soon to be demolished buildings fronting Victoria Street leading on from those too. The Wulfrun Centre could be extended right out to front Victoria Street.

Great news, i agree surely an extension is on the cards? So much potential here.

Which buildings on Victoria street are being demolished Dbadger?
