I think what you meant to say is "poverty is relative", that would be an accurate statement as the saying goes 50 lomi le and sew sekmu le hamsa sew getu,

"50 lomi le and sew sekmu le hamsa sew getu"

That's what it means? That song by Gashaw Adal, I only could hear the "50 lomi le a'nd ' and always wondered what it means. Now I got it. Thanks mate.

With that said, 'hate' is a strong word. I do feel irritated at the mentality in Ethiopia to exalt being poor. People not only have no problem with being poor, but even those who aren't want to be called poor. It's the influence of religion, I think. "Miskin deha" is almost a compliment there, eliciting all sorts of empathy and support. People are in a hurry to tell you about how poor they are.

I sometimes envy the Asian aversion to poverty. They have the exact opposite mentality of breaking out in hives at being thought poor. That's what drives their ambition and work ethic.
Hating the state of being poor is the right thing, but helping poor in the right way is a moral obligation. Not all poor are lazy, many are b/c of lack of appropriate support, institutional hurdles and illiteracy. As for God, before blaming and deciding the non-existace of God, better to understand how God reveals Himself in His words. From the beginning He is a hard worker, He told that He will bless the work of the hands of His creature- Adam..... So, though our work ethic is bad and influenced by religion....it has nothing to do with God.

Neighborhoods come and go brother. No point in salking. You would have to work hard to convince me that there is some out there with a vendetta list to obliterate those neighborhoods.

We're on the same wavelength Lalibela , but if you think of it harder, even hunger differs from person to person, say for instance compare a man who is uses to eating one plate of food on his meal times , with a man who is used to eating, 2 or 3 plates, if for instance the man who is used to eating more than 1 on his meal, suddenly reduced to eating only 1 , that man will suffer from hunger, while 1 plate on meal is perfectly filling for the other one, so perception plays a major role, in all the pleasures and pains of life, since we do not experience our pains and pleasures, with equal intensity even when we are under equal circumstances.

You try everything to divert peoples attention from the issues, even become philosophical about hunger

poverty is not " state of mind " its a real killing machine. 28% of children younger than 5 die from malnourishment every year in ethiopia. 44% of ethiopian children under the age of 10 suffer from chronic malnourishment, (stunting ). Hunger is not a philosophical myth its REAL.

It does seem to appear that many Addis Abbabans are partial to Bole photos as it has been discussed in the forum.
