This is the Yeka Subcity HQ just by Megenagna.
It is an imposing structure and a long way from the crumbling buildings that used to be local administration hq.
Got this off twitter... thanks for whoever posted this.

Right across the Junction from this building, there is an exact duplicate being built which will become the Bole Kifle Ketema HQ

The city is almost unrecognizable.

Dear Andrewcraig,

Thank you so much for posting these photos. They are incredible.

I think soon, Addis will eclipse Nairobi as the biggest city in East Africa. Th only thing missing is a landmark building that easily defines Addis skyline.

I guess it is a face off then. The Megenagna Kotebe road divides the two subcities I guess.

I swear, proper sidewalks excites me more than the buildings (in Addis) lol.

Sidewalk work seems to be going everywhere but in some areas I noticed they don't bother with compacting the ground beneath. So what looks flat and amazing right now will buckle in a short time after a rainy season. A friend told us the quality of work also differs by neighborhood. Like the ones by Bole were done properly because it is the main street and the ones on minor roads use inferior quality materials and subpar workmanship.

I heard both built them close to their borders to be close to the new metro station there ... if that is true that is good city planning . By the way as long as they don't ruin it with ugly windows I prefer simple design instead of having so many shapes flying out of the structure to a point it looks like an abstract painting.

I love it. I am sure the one on the facing side is just as nice! I remember walking past this area everyday heading to school and noticing how imposing and ugly the open space was (especially with Marx, Engles and Lenin hanging around). Now if they could somehow make green space with the left over space it would even be nicer. Hold public rallies in stadiums instead ... hopefully new one will accommodate large crowds.

A very welcome change.

The guy who installed the "Yeka" signs should be forced to go up again and move them away from the edge of the building. No sense of balance and proportion. So much negative space to work with but he shoves there

There is a lot of cleaning to be done in that city.
