l do think that the best way to lose validity in an issue is to state that a provincial city will outshine the capital....Nay,the world and is ambitious to say the least. lf Manc',Brum'and all the rest combined then London will smash us into insignificant pieces.....City pride, yeah,l'm all for it but let's stay real-world here....Please....

What does regional pride actually buy?......Failure to agree on Greater Brum' as the lnternationally recognised name for your local area, and a return to th 'West Midlands' which promoted balls-all for the last 4 decades.....Smart move.

I saw that. I did mention Carillion were awarded that contract at 2am this morning on the Paradise thread.

I can't find in that article or the Birmingham post article where it mentions they have won the contract to build Two Chamberlain Square as well.

Can't find which article I read it in now but it said carillion had won the first phase rather than building and mentioned one and two chamberlain sq a longb with the public realm works

Would make sense as part of the remedial works includes the foundations

As it stands Carillion have the works up to "Podium" level, and 1 Chamberlain Square. Bidding still going on for 2 Chamberlain Square I'm told..

Very exciting times! Two shiny new buildings, which they're clearly keen about getting up!

They won't be keeping them will they? We'll be getting the larger steps that people tend to use for seating. There are more infront of 1 Chamberlain square too. You can see them here:

Yeah you're right:

2015/05010/PA | Land at and bounded by Paradise Circus Queensway and surroundings including Chamberlain Square, Congreve Passage, Parade and Paradise Street, City Centre, Birmingham, B3 3HJ

Personally I can't quite believe they're replacing something so unsympathetic to the surrounding historic architecture with something equally if not more unsympathetic - disregarding a view that has been pined after for decades in favour of entirely average office blocks

I've argued this too Pave but got shot down.

I wouldn't mind them being unsympathetic, if they were at minimum unique. But to me, these are just office blocks, which I've seen a plethora of nigh upon identical ones when I was working in the city.

Though I don't mind high quality office blocks, but not when they block this view. I'd rather have seen something at minimum unique, and if that weren't posible, sympathetic.

The difference is that your sympathetic is to have a large open space which is not going to happen here unfortunately.

I don't think you can look at these buildings and say they are so unsympathetic that they harm the listed buildings.
