I know others will say there is no use crying over split milk, but what I particular find hard to swallow is all those lost opportunities to have something truly iconic and distinctive at this locality making its assertive mark on the city skyline.

Presently Broad Street and Eastside are the two main axes for the tallest tower proposals but we could have had it so much better at this location were it not for the twin evils of the economic slump of 2008 and the usual lack of ambition from the council when approving the half-height replacement for Arena Central / V Building.

The wacky frontages of these new buildings going up here are trying too hard to be quirky and unique (a la The Cube and the new Central Library), and for me it doesn't work. The view from Gas Street basin of the collective massing just looks like a bit of a mess to me.

Yeah well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man

I did have a chuckle at that, conurbation 2,😀 but no, didn't intentionally mean it to be a pun.

It's architectural cubism and obviously the art, that inspires me, as does many other art movement's, art will free the masses.

Anyway Oslo's barcode project even has building's with pixels in their name, together they form a barcode outline, and the geometrical shapes work even more with the water, and comes together really well.

And with brum's three being so close to the water just reminds me of Oslo's.

Nice reflection of the Library in the 3 arena central windows! The effect will only be improved once the silver cladding goes up!

Superb last shot - lots of density. Iím sure theyíve been there for a number of years but Iíve never really noticed those aerials on top of Alpha before - shame they donít have any lights on them to brighten up Alpha at night.

I happen to think that this building, surrounded by other unique towers, is a really interesting development and the whole cluster together is going to be iconic, striking and recognisable outside of Brum.

Birmingham is leading the way for modern architecture, in my opinion.

Plenty of news rumours and operators lined up but never materialises

Perhaps a knock down and rebuild may get it moving...

I think they have added the metal cladding to the sample piece on the ground, but it is mostly obscured by the fence barrier. Looks more matte than shinny.
