Great idea!!! It is quite an overwhelming wall your faced with as you travel along Broad street.

I wonder if we could see more than the £10m improvements planned than before with the weight lifting being held here for the CWG

We don't need to ruin this gem so let's be careful for what we wish for.

That canopy above the entrance needs to go. We can do better than that. And that big red sign.

We can only wonder what Richard Rogers presented to the council. What a gem that might've been. If they could strip off the exterior of the building and remodel it to something more iconic like the Pomipou Centre, they definitely should at some point in the future.

Wasn't it only the interior getting a makeover as part of the £10 mil? Like the entrance to the Halls and Toilets etc

Yes the canopy needs removing but apart from cleaning the stonework the rest of the Symphony Hall should be untouched - maybe better access from Broad Street but the foyer and full height glazing already creates a great space for those jazz afternoons.

New entrance lobby so there will be some external changes I’d have thought with the weight lifting being held here now I do wonder if they might look at further improvements/expansion

The lobby is abysmal, it has to be said.

It needs remodeling, but I do like the current window.

It just needs a refurb, really. You need to imagine it in the context of the revamped square being boxed like a huge piazza with all the buildings around it.

The front needs new less grim lighting, the polished concrete needs cleaning, and perhaps the main lobby needs a rethink, dragged out of the tubular steel late 80's.

The rest of the building needs to get a good clean and treated to reduce smog grime contamination.

I believe the thinking behind this is to give Symphony Hall its own "front door" off Centenary Square, so that it has a more self-contained identity independent of the ICC.

I'm worried about this development. The ICC is ok as it is. I know it's not great but it's ok. It should be allowed to grow old gracefully. Yes it's out of fashion now but that happens to all buildings at some point. If we leave it alone in 40 years it will be a truly interesting historic building.

I like the dated lobby with those strange steel tubes at high level. It's unusual.

Just think how much better the Hippodrome and the Alex would be if they hadn't been 'improved' over the years. I'm worried we're about to make the same mistake. It's the same mistake birmingham makes over and over again.

That said I wouldn't mind if the broad street elevation was altered because it interacts so badly with the street. A new Symphony Hall entrance here would make sense.

Also more bars and restaurants at the back looking over the canal would be a good idea. I think that could be done without significantly changing the building.
