There’s plots of land and existing MSCPs that could have a few more floors

I’m confused as to why Q park and the like aren’t going ahead with expanding them

The car parks fill up easily and bring in a lot of revenue so more spaces mean more money for them and it’s likely to get praised at planning stage and sail through planning with ease

The car parks I believe are Hospital owned but managed by Q-park. Therefore, I would imagine any expansion is down to the trust.

Vinci will build the Queen Elizabeth Hospital expansion scheme in Edgbaston, which will deliver acute healthcare for private patients in the region.

The new facility is a joint venture between University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust Foundation Trust and HCA Healthcare UK, being developed by specialist healthcare property company Prime.

The 160,000 sq ft hospital, designed by HOK, will provide 66 private patient care beds and 72 NHS beds, as well as new radiotherapy unit and operating theatres.

Construction is expected to start in the summer with a completion date of winter 2020.

Can someone explain to me the benefit of the Private and Public hospitals working together.

I assume the Private company gets the benefit of being close to a hospital, and the public hospital gets a few beds in the building?

What makes this a viable medley?

It's a joint venture between the NHS and HCA to provide a private patient unit - essentially providing private patient services within the NHS. The benefit is profit for both parties.

Quote:
Total private patient revenues are now worth £526m to the NHS, a reported growth of almost 30% over the last five years

...

For insured and self-pay patients, they can provide access to services that are backed up by 24/7 infrastructure that most private hospitals cannot match: for example, intensive care or robotic surgery.

The sheer convenience of onsite, ad hoc access makes a difference, too, for experienced consultants and also those just starting out in private practice that perhaps cannot get access to crowded theatre space at the local private hospital.

For the host NHS trust, a PPU should be delivering a positive commercial return achieved on
the marginal cost provision of leveraging estate and assets. This all should add up to a winwin-win. Where it does, then the PPU works very well – but healthcare being what it is means that there are many challenges along the way.
