I can't come up with one example either. It just seems unusual that in order to improve the Rogers Centre, they are trying to make it like Tropicana Field. Again, it just seems like a lateral move at best.

You know, if they ever get natural grass in Rogers Place, they're gonna have to dig up space for dirt anyway. Is adding natural grass a lateral move? Because this is the first step.

And if the organization thinks it helps the players stay safe, then they can do whatever they want.

If they eventually add natural grass there, what are they going to do in the off season? Isn't the roof closed a good portion of the year?

Would it be possible to build a brand new ballpark inside the Rogers Centre.

Well, it would be unprecedented and probably mean the Blue Jays would have to play elsewhere for a few seasons.

Montreal. Kill 2 birds with one stone. A suitable ballpark for the Jays to play in while they demolish the Skydome build a new ballpark on the grounds, and show MLB that Montreal can support a team, kinda like how after Hurricane Katrina the Hornets played in OKC. Really got the ball rolling for Sonics move there.

You misread my post. I said build a new one inside the Rogers Centre. Sunlife Stadium in Miami and Stadio Friuli now Dacia Arena in Udine rebuilt practically brand new stadiums while their teams stilled played in them. They built section by section when they had the chance during the season and the off season. My idea had nothing to do with demolishing the Rogers Center. It involves keeping the exterior intact while gutting and rebuilding the interior. The rumor is that Rogers plans to invest anywhere from $250 to $400 million in the next 5 years on retrofitting it to be a baseball first facility. Everybody talks about how great the location is and how they like having a roof that prevents postponed games do to bad weather but that its too big and carnivorous. So why not rebuild it section by section mostly during the off season over a 3 to 5 year window. Having the roof closed during the off season makes it easier and there would be no need to play elsewhere other than road games in which some minor work can be done in that time period.

Rogers Centre early in last night's game. The place really does look better with the full dirt infield. Tweeted by Empty Seats Galore, who do their best to sound snarky, but wind up publishing some great shots of venues.

Well, it's not that snarky, maybe 12? MLB teams are averaging 30k a game this season.
