x-posting relevant news and projects from the projects in smaller cities thread

Jodhpur Mall,Jodhpur,Rajasthan

Quote:
Located in the heart of Jodhpur – and less than 3km from the airport, this development totals 61,000m² and features a three-storey retail mall crowned with an entertainment level that boasts a multiplex cinema, food courts and fine dining restaurants.

The retail and leisure components link directly to the adjacent, 135 room five star hotel.

Quote:
The retail hotel mix is a growing trend in India and for this project, Benoy’s designs propose a full retail frontage onto the road with a raised, private drop-off entrance at the side.

The hotel sits above the retail and is designed in the traditional courtyard style - offering most guest rooms wonderful views of the Old City and its palaces.

The over-riding architectural principle adopted for this project is the introduction of a contemporary interpretation of traditional Indian architecture.

A continuous variation of modular sandstone walls forms a front layer of balconies, alcoves, and shadows that create visual perforations along the main structure. Ruptures to the façade’s rhythm will highlight the entrances to the mall, where the walls playfully vary in height and angle.

There hasn't been any design change reported on the architect's (Benoy) website, so that is indeed how it's going to look.

Saint-Gobain to invest Rs 10 bn in Rajasthan

Quote:
The Indian arm of French float-glass manufacturer Saint-Gobain is setting up a 300,000 tonne plant at Bhiwadi in Rajasthan with an investment of Rs.10 billion ($250 million), top company officials said.

The new plant will take the company's capacity to 750,000 tonnes per annum, as its Rs.15 billion unit at Sriperumbudur near here has a capacity of 450,000, Saint-Gobain India managing director B. Santhanam told a press conference here.

"The investment in the first phase of the new unit will be Rs.10 billion," said Santhanam, who is also president of the group's float glass division for South Asia.

"There is adequate cash generation to meet the capital expenditure," said Anand Y. Mahajan, general delegate, South Asia, Saint-Gobain. "There are options like borrowing locally or in Europe or inter-corporate borrowing from group outfits."

Explaining the rationale for the proposed investment in Rajasthan, Santhanam said the logistics cost is around 15 percent of sales realisation; this would be reduced as the plant will be near the targeted market - northern India.
He said the company and the Rajasthan government have discussed the project, that will require around 150 acres of land.

Saint-Gobain gets just a shade less than a third of its total sales from northern and western India, while east accounts the least.

According to Santhanam, the domestic glass industry is growing at 18-20 percent anually since 2000 on the back of economic growth and a booming construction sector.

The high-end realty segment, where glass has become an integral part of design, is growing faster.

"Trends like the green building movement have encouraged usage of glass in a more evolved manner," he added.

Quote:
JAIPUR: The Centre has approved projects for development of Fateh Sagar Lake in Udaipur at a cost of Rs.42 crore and improvement of the Walled City area in Jaipur at a cost of Rs.29 crore. The Centre will bear 70 per cent of the cost of the lake plan under the National Lake Conservation Project. State Local Self Secretary Manjeet Singh said here over the week-end that the development of the Walled City would be taken up under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) as part of which the Centre, the State government and the Jaipur Municipal Corporation would bear 50 per cent, 20 per cent and 30 per cent of the cost respectively.

Mr. Singh said the project at Fateh Sagar Lake would involve desilting of the lake area, installation of a sewage treatment plant, beautification of the adjacent area and installation of fountains.

The project for the Walled City in Jaipur was approved at a meeting presided over by Union Urban Development Secretary M. Ramachandran here over the week-end to review the progress of schemes worth Rs.1,800 crore launched under JNNURM in the State.

Mr. Singh said that the project would involve underground laying of streetlight wires, development of parking areas, beautification of historical monuments, improvement in the drainage system and introduction of heritage walks, besides the establishment of “culinary spots” offering Rajasthani delicacies. He added that both the projects would be completed within the next year and a half.

Daikin to invest Rs 160 cr in Rajasthan

Quote:
Daikin Airconditioning India Pvt Ltd, a fully-owned subsidiary of Japan-based Daikin Industries, on Wednesday announced an investment of Rs 160 crore for setting up a manufacturing facility at Neemrana in Rajasthan.
The unit is expected to start production by 2009 and it would have a capacity to produce 20,000 variable refrigerant volume units and 1,800 chiller units per annum, Daikin India Managing Director Toshiki Hayashi told reporters at the ground breaking ceremony here.
Daikin India hopes to generate a revenue of Rs 1,100 crore by 2010, he said.
"By reducing the supply lead-time and meeting market needs in terms of product specification, we propose to strengthen our competitiveness and leadership in the Indian airconditioning market," Hayashi said.
Daikin is the world's second largest airconditioning systems brand with manufacturing facilities in Japan, Thailand, Europe and China.
The company plans to manufacture multi-split type commercial-use airconditioning equipment and chillers (large-capacity airconditioning heat source equipment) at the Rajasthan unit.
When put into operations, the plant would provide direct employment to about 300 persons.

Giral project startup revised to January 2009

The commercial operation date for Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd's 125-mw unit II of Giral thermal power plant has now been scheduled for January 2009, after Bhel—the main plant package supplier for the project—failed to stick to the earlier schedule of November 2008.

Project authorities pointed out to serious operational issues like "choking problems" in the plant. Experts from USA carried out flow analysis of the CFBC boiler and submitted their report to BHEL, recommending modifications in the economizer back-pass. BHEL officials told Projectmonitor that these modifications would be carried out soon and the plant should start commercial generation by January next year.

Vikas WSP to acquire 5,000 acres in Rajasthan

8,000 tonnes of organic guarseed planned.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The company will commence production of organic guar gum at its new plant at Sriganganagar in Rajasthan from December.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mumbai, Nov. 21 Vikas WSP has moved the Rajasthan Government to acquire 5,000 acre wasteland near Hanumangarh. The land will be made arable utilising water from the Indira Gandhi Canal project.

Mr B.D. Agarwal, Managing Director, Vikas WSP, said the company would be investing Rs 100 crore and it will take at least two years before it gets the necessary approval. The company has sought a subsidy in the form of 50 per cent concession on pricing of the land.

At present, the company grows guar seed on 1,987 acres and has signed up 153 farmers for contract farming in over 2,500 acres. Another 900 acres will come under contract farming with 45 farmers being roped in, he said.

Of late, the demand for organic guar gum — used as the thickening agent on oats and other edible items — is on the rise. “Organic guar gum requires certification from the competent authority and commands a premium of 30 per cent over inorganic guar gum, mainly utilised for industrial purposes,” said Mr Agarwal.

The company intends to produce 8,000 tonnes of organic guarseed. Of the total capacity of 46,200 tonnes of guar gum, about 1,400 tonnes will be organic.

Ruling out any slowdown in demand due to the financial crisis, Mr Agarwal said the company managed to maintain a profit margin of 15 per cent as exports realisation improved with the rupee weakening.

The demand for guar gum from the food sector in the developed countries is growing at 7 to 8 per cent a year, while it is up 14-15 per cent in developing countries. In India, there is a mark up of 10 per cent in demand.

The company will commence production of organic guar gum at its new plant at Sriganganagar in Rajasthan from December. Another production unit of organic guar gum is set to go on stream by FY’10 at Bikaner in Rajasthan with an investment of Rs 202 crore.

A project for producing guar derivatives for the personal care industry and oil and gas sector will be completed in Baroda by FY’11 with an investment of Rs 377 crore.
