With the new 6E flight, CCU-RGN is going from 4x weekly to 11x weekly. Is there really a yuuuge potential on CCU-RGN sector? Where are these additional pax going to come from?

Okay, let me run this through you as I might see an opportunity for Indigo to fly to Manila, a slot-constrained airport...

A new airline, Thai Lion Air will operate Bangkok/Don Mueang to Manila daily, on board the Boeing 737-800 from 1 October 2019. Schedule:

SL130 DMK1955 – 0015+1MNL 738 D
SL131 MNL0105 – 0335DMK 738 D

Source

With that schedule in mind (red-eye to and from Manila), and presuming there are still slots on the graveyard shift (e.g. between 11pm and 5am), how about this schedule for Indigo...

6E026 CCU1730 - 0110+1MNL 320 D
6E027 MNL0210 - 0515CCU 320 D

Would that schedule work for you? The outbound flight is 5hr 10min, inbound is 5hr 45min. The more important question is, will there be an available A320 at CCU at around 4:30pm to accommodate that flight?

Excellent analysis, I'll ask Indigo to start the flight tonight. Make sure you let MNL authorities know that the aircraft will land tomorrow. Also, send me an email for approval.

I travelled in and out of Kolkata Airport (International Airport) a few times this month and there is impressive change in the area around Immigration counters in the arrivals section. Magnetic Gates have been installed, the signage is good, even the washroom area beside the arrivals immigration area look decent. It used to be shabby earlier..Magnetic Gates are also installed with clear counter signage in the departure immigration section as well. Flights to Dubai (all classes on Emirates on 17th, there was no option to upgrade) and Bangkok (outbound-Indigo on 12th and inbound-Spicejet on 15th) were full.

"Magnetic gates" refers to newly installed low gates that control the passages between the individual immigration counters. They open once you are cleared to pass. Hardly a big deal. It's not as if people can run past immigration if there are no such gates. These are mechanical contraptions and will inevitably malfunction before the end of the monsoon.

Looks like Indigo is cutting down on flights between Hyd and Cal. Surprisingly they have done it during the Durga Puja when there is high demand.

Same goes with Bengaluru, Chennai, Bhubuneswar, Patna, Kochi & Goa.

Though Mumbai Kolkata frequency increased from 6X daily to 8X Daily.

That would be an interesting question. Gulf Air has had limited growth opportunities, especially with the Big 3 staking out their ridership shares away from other Middle Eastern carriers, that it might take more than just media publicity for that to happen. Although Oman Air has seen success by providing efficient service through Muscat, Gulf Air is located smack in the middle between Doha, Abu Dhabi, and Dubai, making it challenging to bring back the good old days when it provided service to Australia via Bangkok.

Oman Air's was never a bluff... They have not yet been able to add seats to India!! It is the same as it was in 2016. Oman now has a second carrier that is looking to expand to India and that might trigger the next round of talks to expand the bilaterals!!

Bahrain is the smallest Gulf country with a population of less than 1.5 million people... which is probably as much as the southeast or northwest corner of Kolkata!! The only advantage they have had (for Indians) is that they are the most open and free of the GCC countries, a tad bit more liberal than even the Indian's home away from home, Dubai.

Oman air has also become the No.1 transit airline for the cost conscious Qatar residents. The fastest way to fly from Doha to Dubai/Abu Dhabi now is via Muscat (followed by a flight via Kuwait)!!

And the same story repeats on Emirates flight EK573: CCU-DXB on 25th Aug night, though they did give options to upgrade to Business at counter on fee payment.
On a side note Air India flight to Dubai has been extended till Dec31.Correction extended indefinitely and is available for booking in 2020 as well.

Flight to Hongkong by Indigo has also started.
