Geeeezzz. Are the builders really that stupid are acting like one. Why are they planting those palm trees lined up. I am really tired of those useless palms. What we need for Madras climate is huge trees. DAMN, some people never learn.

Since it is a Hiranandani, the quality will be good. But if you are planning to buy a flat, I would suggest you not to (Unless you work very close and you will be the end user). Dont "invest" in the property.

"These Palm Trees are available ready in full size. Just buy them and replant them. This gives a tree lined look to the avenue!!??!! To plant saplings of Neem and other trees and waiting for them to grow - who has time?" - This is the argument given by a sales executive of one of the top developers.

I think that all these supposed to be modern innovation has emanated from GULF esp DUBAI. There, even plastic Date Trees are planted along the roads.

Aren't we cheating ourselves?

Well this has always been the case even with government sponsored afforestation. They plant trees like Bauhinia or some easy to plant (same place will be reused forever) options, rather than plant the native species.

Trust me, even the local horticulturists or even botanists are ignorant of the advantages of bring back the native species.

Few years ago both central and state governments propagated Velikathan (Prosopis Juliflora) and acacia and eucalyptus.. WHY.. because you plant and forget about them. The real disaster can be felt in many of the local communities where these species suppress all the others..

Point I am trying to labor is introducing species that are glamorous rather than utility just shows our ignorance and buying the idea of greenery without any intelligence to it, doesnt hold good in the long term.

Also, they prefer palm coz of less maintenance. leaf fall is almost nil compared to a neem tree.

I hope, like the one in Powai,Mumbai, this society too is open as a throughfare to everyone (albeit with good maintenance). I remember passing through Hiranandani Powai and walking through it's cobbled walkways in 2002.
