As i understand it, it all depends. With A&E you will usually get taken to the closest. Certain hospitals will have specialist funding for the area, so for instance, QE (at least up to last year) have specialist trauma funding and so all trauma was sent there. With many other things, you can effectively pick where you want to go but its usually a GP referral and they send usually send you to the closet hospital within the CCG

Can somebody post the full article please as the Post links don't work at a later date. Thanks.

What happened to my post about this? Anyway although disappointing that this could delay the Metropolitan Hospital, I believe this ‘shake up’ is required and have stated as much previously.

I’d just like to say I wasn’t accusing btw. As I stated it’s happened before so I know the App sometimes plays up. You do a great job RalphGuy.

All the best.

It's fine if you think your post is missing to ask where it's gone. No harm done Rijo.

And thanks for the praise.

We may have an end finally in sight for this one

Quote:
Balfour Beatty looks set to seal the deal to complete Carillion’s Midlands Metropolitan Hospital within the £267m finishing budget.

Balfour Beatty is presently on site under a £9m care and maintenance early work deal
The firm is the sole bidder for the project and is in competitive dialogue with Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS trust.

The Trust board has revealed that negotiations are progressing well and, despite not yet having a compliant bid, were expected to conclude in May.

This would allow a preferred replacement contractor deal to be signed in June with a final contract agreed by August.

If the deal is finalised, Balfour Beatty would complete construction of the hospital by December 2021, enabling it to become operational by May 2022.

The Midland Metropolitan Hospital was originally procured under a PF2 contract with Carillion in December 2015 but work halted when the contractor collapsed in January 2018.

Under the terms of a new publicly funded design and build deal, the contractor will assume risk for completion, with the exception of certain works.

Balfour would be paid for the cost of the works completed, not the target price. Any savings on the target price would be shared with the trust as a ‘gain share’ to incentivise the bidder to deliver best value.

The trust plans to hold £38m as a contingency against any unforeseen costs deemed to be out of the scope of the contract.

Looks like we will have to wait till the cranes are removed to see the completion of the ETFE slopping roofline.

Yes it does but it should have already started. This is yet another delay to the project. How many more delays will there be?

I’m doubtful that government will learn from the fall of Carillion either.

Before he died earlier this year, my dad who had spent various spells in hospitals all around the city (and Norwich!!!) he was sent to City / Dudley Road over the Christmas period, I felt it was the most caring ward he'd ever visited. Everything you expect from a hospital like absolute cleanliness, regular checks and decent food were present in that particular ward. This will eventually close to make way for this new hospital and I dare say lose a little of that comfort.

Balfour Beatty set to start work on Midland Met hospital by Christmas
By Jordan Marshall1 October 2019

But NHS trust still waiting on government to sign-off contract

Work is set to restart on the Midlands hospital left in limbo for nearly two years in the wake of Carillion’s collapse before Christmas despite still waiting on sign-off from the government, NHS trust board papers have revealed.

Documents published ahead of this week’s meeting of the Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS trust have revealed that Balfour Beatty, the trust’s preferred bidder to take over the job, is planning to start the main package of works in the winter.
