Soft golf is a new concept to me, although as I have no real interest in golf I wouldn't expect to have heard of it. It appears to be playing golf with a foam ball, so a 9 hole golf course can be accommodated in a much smaller area than a normal course. To quote from the application statement:

"Foam golf is a new concept and is great for juniors, beginners and improvers keen to work on their technique in a smaller area than is usually required. The foam ball travels a much shorter distance than a traditional golf ball, which will enable us to create a 7 to 9 hole course in the area highlighted in the application."

An application has gone in for the creation of such a soft golf course at Orton Grange which envisages a 9-hole course in one not particularly large field. The site is adjacent to a farm shop and very close to Dobbies Garden Centre just off the A595.

McVitie: Carlisle United easily able to reach play-offs

After a terrible run of one win and three draws from 13 games, Carlisle deserve a lot of credit for winning three in a row.

In those victories we’ve seen some of the energy and the passing football that we saw earlier in the season. It’s a case of sustaining it now. There are eight cup finals left. There’s going to be hiccups on the way. But we’ve really put ourselves in the hat now.
