Ground broken at machinery company's new Bishop Auckland building


A COMPANY used to supplying specialist agricultural and construction plant to other businesses has seen the diggers move in on its own site for a change.

Last month, the first ground was broken for new premises for Lloyd Ltd at Bishop Auckland.

After delays due to bad weather and planning amendments, work is now underway and should be complete by March 2020.

A PROPOSAL to build hundreds of homes in open countryside has been unanimously rejected by councillors.

Permission was sought to build 350 homes with easy access on a site near Beechburn Industrial Estate in Crook.

Housing developer seeks to increase number of homes on Coxhoe site


A DEVELOPER has submitted an application to build 70 homes on the outskirts of a village.

Persimmon Homes is seeking to develop the site off Station Road, Coxhoe, where outline permission for 50 homes was granted in 2016.

The company is proposing to provide a total of seven "affordable" properties, which would have two bedrooms, ten per cent of the total.

A PROPOSAL to redevelop a former dog racing track for housing goes before councillors today.

Pillars Construction has applied to Durham County Council for planning permission to put 84 houses on the old Greyhound Track, near Merrington Lane, Spennymoor.

Work starts to improve junction at Bowburn


WORK has started on a multi-million-pound motorway junction improvement scheme in County Durham.

Durham County Council has begun its major work on junction 61 of the A1(M) at Bowburn ahead of the Integra 61 development, which will see 101 acres of industrial units and 270 new homes constructed in the area.

RESIDENTS and businesspeople in a town will finally get to see– and share their thoughts on– regeneration plans for an outdated shopping precinct next week.

Plans to turn Bishop Auckland Beales into 62-bed hotel


A FORMER high-street department store which has stood empty for more than two years could be turned into a 62-bed hotel if new plans are given the go ahead.

The historic building on Newgate Street, in Bishop Auckland was originally owned by The Co-Operative in the1870s but was most recently home to Beales.

OBJECTORS who hope to defeat controversial planning applications have been told ‘feelings don’t cut it’ when trying to fend off developers.

Instead, protestors should make sure they arm themselves with ‘facts and statistics’ to make sure they can see off unpopular proposals for good.

Former Weardale industrial site redevelopment plans in motion


PLANS for a derelict former steelworks site have taken a step forward.

The 14 acre site in Wolsingham has lain derelict for 11 years, but now a newly formed company will take responsibility for the planning application that will support its re-use.

A spokesman for BXB Wolsingham Limited, which has been formed by brownfield experts to consider redevelopment options for the site, said that talks with Durham County Council have already started.

Planning permission granted for Newton Aycliffe business park


PLANNING permission has been granted for a £140m business park in County Durham.

Forrest Park (Newton Aycliffe) Limited has secured outline planning permission to develop a 55-hectare site near Newton Aycliffe.

The development, which includes 1.75m sq ft of business, industrial, warehouse and trade units, a 60-bed hotel, pub, roadside restaurant and retail units, will extend Aycliffe Business Park to become the largest in the North-East.

Campaigners praise plan for new £2.5m bridge at Witton Park


A COMMUNITY fighting to save a historic bridge have rejoiced following the announcement to build a new multi-million-pound crossing.

Witton Park Bridge, near Bishop Auckland, was initially planned to shut for 20 weeks to allow Durham County Council to partially rebuild, clean, and paint it.
