A Dialogue between Nature and Architecture:

Building: "Hi, Tree"

Tree: " Oh, Hi there building! Didn't see you there"

Building: "What do you mean, didn't see me there? We are always here! WE never move!"

Tree: "Hey, I leave all the time!"

Tree: ""Ha ha ha! Get it? Leave?"

Building: "Tree, you're weird"

Nice. I wish more buildings around the world were covered with nature.

Sorry I cannot quote images or url's yet but...

I would hate to be in there if there were ever like a 1in 100 flood.

Like just in a normal rain storm, all that water flowing off the ground from above. At least they are making good use of an old quarry.

I guess there would no doubt have adequate drains to expel any water..

The tree buildings in Sanya look so much better with greenery. They looked just ridiculous before but now they make sense.

Bosco Verticale (Milan, Italy)

Vertical Forest is a model for a sustainable residential building, a project for metropolitan reforestation that contributes to the regeneration of the environment and urban biodiversity without the implication of expanding the city upon the territory. It is a model of vertical densification of nature within the city that operates in relation to policies for reforestation and naturalization of large urban and metropolitan borders.

The first example of the Vertical Forest composed of two residential towers in Milan, host 900 trees (each measuring 3, 6 or 9 meters tall) and over 2,000 plants from a wide range of shrubs and floral plants that are distributed in relation to the façade’s position to towards the sun. On flat land, each Vertical forest equals, in amount of trees, an area equal o 7,000 sqm of forest. In terms of urban densification the equivalent of an area of single family dwellings of nearly 75,000 sqm. The vegetal system of the Vertical Forest aids in the construction of a microclimate, produces humidity, absorbs CO2 and dust particles and produces oxygen.

The masterplan for an eco-friendly "forest city" in China has been revealed by Italian architecture firm, Stefano Boeri Architetti.

[...]

Liuzhou Forest City will be self-sufficient in clean energy, utilising geothermal and rooftop solar power. While this may seem impressive enough, an even greater innovation is the widespread use of vegetation covering every building, of all sizes and functions. A total of 40,000 trees (1.3 for every person) and almost a million plants of more than 100 different species will make this a true "forest city".

I think what makes Europe so beautiful is the way many buildings and even entire towns are part of the landscape. Respecting the landscape rather than ignoring it and trying to mask it.

Looking at many modern cities you would have no idea what the original terrain looked like.
Hills levelled. Depressions filled. Swamps drained. Rivers tamed.
Homogenised beyond recognition.
