The M4 is a waste. Its a replication of a line that you can catch 1 station up....from Epping. it needs to get rid of the Rhodes station, and instead include Top Ryde, and got to Concord Hospital (this should be a must, it will ensure that future investment into this vital hospital will continue as well as Teritary education added to it)....or it shoudl go the other side of the current line and run through Melrose park and Wentworth point as 2 massive apartment areas . What its proposed as will not serve those in the area or out of it effectively.

M4 definitely should be further east IMO. However I think previously they were trying to create capacity for the Northern line with all the Metros so that they can dedicate a lot of paths on the North Shore line to the Western line instead. I think that despite what others say, West Metro may mean that this is no longer needed. So send the North > South Metro through areas that aren't serviced by rail.

Mabel only 80m from Victoria Cross so I'd expect breakthrough early next week.
Nancy looks about 40% of the way through to Martin Place after only a week so if guess the following week for first Martin Place breakthrough.

Just a question regarding the metro at Barangaroo.

There appears tobe a metalic roof over the completed sections but it looks higher than the rest of the ground. Will it stay like this ?
I thought in previous renders there was just a set of stairs going down past some green grass and that was all you can see of the metro.

Also, is the current cut out that you see for both trains so you will be able to see another train when you pass it ?

Yes, interim roof. They cannot build anything permanent until the TBM’s are all finished, remember the station is the launch site for two drives of the TBM beneath the harbour, also the retrieval site for the two TBM’s that came from Marrickville.
The one station box is for both tracks, either side of an island platform.

Is there a vantage point where you can see down into the Barangaroo station box and see the TBMs breaking through?

Southern end of High St although I don’t think the angle is quite right to see anything plus the temporary roof probably obstructs the view.

Yes, that was the only spot, but the angle is too steep, the base is too deep. The temporary roof is for noise abatement, so would probably be closed for any breakthrough.

https://www.smh.com.au/business/comp...17-p52s6g.html

The NSW govt will get $369m from developers for air rights to the Pitt St metro station. That puts the costs of metro stations into perspective. Sure it might be $0.5-1b per CBD station, up front, but you can then get a lot of it back through development. Add in Crows Nest, Victoria Cross, Barangaroo and Waterloo, and the metro will probably be getting $1-1.5b in total for air rights.

Bear in mind you have to net off what it cost the government to buy the sites in the first place (or the opportunity costs for the ones they always owned, like Martin Place north)

Hopefully the Pitt St station design allows for future underground links to the west towards Town Hall and to the east toward Museum and a possible Metro West stop.

It's deliberately not. Change at Central or Martin Pl. Town Hall doesn't need extra crowds.
