Scottsdale abuts Phoenix on its eastern border and has effectively usurped many of its urban functions, particularly shopping. The explosion of condo construction in central Scottsdale shows how success can leverage more success. There is something a bit unreal about Scottsdale - it's like Palm Springs in a way. But it's good to see Scottsdale finding an urban pulse.

This is a satellite picture of downtown Scottsdale - you can see the waterfront construction side in the middle of the picture. The big buildings next to it is the Fashion square mall. Downtown Scottsdale with main street and its many shops is at the bottom this picture (small street in the center that ends in a small park on the east side of downtown = civic center).
