This might sound dumb ..... but if I am boeing. I try to make one last pitch for the 747-8i to EK. See what they say. The Queen of the skies is back to being the queen. What is the worse EK could say? No?

Yep, the argument for the 777X in place of the A380 is just as valid if you substitute the 747-8i in its place instead.

Has anyone seen this? British Airways have just unveiled their retro liveried Boeing 747-400. I have to say the painting is immaculately done

Does anyone think the 747 program is going to survive just long enough to see its 60th anniversary before the 777X delivers the killing blow?

As a freighter, yes. As an airliner, very unlikely.

The 747F's have virtually no competition in the large freight liner arena. The A380 would have to be totally redesigned to be converted to freight, which isnt going to happen. The 747F's will be around for many years to come.

I wasn't asking about the Airbus A380.

So if an airliner in the freight market was choosing between a 777F and a 747-8F, are you saying the latter would be more likely to win out?

Why do these engines look so odd? Like from the A330.

These are the typical RR engine cowlings, similar to the RR powered A330s.

As there are more GE or PW powered 747-400s you don't see them as often as you see these completely covered engines on the A330.
