Thanks for the pics. I've always been curious about what the "Technological Capital of the Universe" looked like. Very nice, quaint buildings. A bit too sterile. Just add some people, actually A LOT more people and those pictures would look complete. ;)
Actually the real capital of the Silicon Valley exists outside of Downtown. The real silicon valley would be West San Jose-Milpitas-Paloalto-Santaclara_cupertino.
haha SOme peoplewpuld include Fremont too.
Yea I live in Hayward, East bay and Go to school in San Jose (San Jose State in Downtown Its the pic with the LIbrary and green campus)

5 years here and it still amazes me that there are sooo many tech heavyweights here (actually all of them) ;)

Here are some renders of buildings planned or under construction:

This is the City Heights condo tower going up on Julian St.

This is the tower planned for Market St. behind the California Theatre:

This is the complex just under way on San Fernando St accros from the Cinebar (San Jose's best bar ever!)

Go here for more info on this project:
http://www.sjheartofthecity.com/block3.htm

And this is what they hope to build on the corner of San Carlos and Market accross from the park:

Most of this is from here:

San Jose has over a dozen prposed or under construction high-rise projects for the downtown area. It really is a shame that the airport is so close, but height isn't everything. Im sure SJ will have a beautiful and interesting skyline soon enough.

Im sure SJ will have a beautiful and interesting skyline soon enough. It has already begun. Oh and it may have a second downtown by 2030. A large part of north first street will be developed into a mixture of High-rise residential and commercial. I think it will be the strip of north first between Brokaw and Montague.

these pics really take you away from the typical view of suburban San Jose. You totally see a whole different kind of city when you look at these pics.

This last one looks a bit Seattle-ish don't you think? Or more Portland classic street car kind of thing. Anywhoo, I love the way these pics of our VTA light rail portray San Jose.
As I posted in the City's development thread, these VTA pics (and the photographer) do a good job of fooling the viewer into thinking San Jose is really an urban busy city.
